Patricia Arquette is the New PI in Town

Apple TV+ has dropped its official trailer for High Desert. The dark comedy, which debuts next month, stars Patricia Arquette as Peggy, a former drug dealer and on-again-off-again addict looking to improve her life following her mother’s death. However, that won’t come easy, as the trailer shows Peggy dealing with her siblings (who are holding her past against her) and previous acquaintances who think Peggy should turn to drugs for comfort. You can watch the full trailer below.

The series takes place in California, in the small desert town of Yucca Valley, where Peggy is determined to become a private investigator. She dons her best detective outfit and demands a job. While her soon-to-be employer seems hesitant and tells her “he’s not hiring,” Arquette lands the job (but makes it very clear that waking up before 11 am is not part of her work ethic). The trailer highlights Peggy going through rough patches with humor.

High Desert is directed by award-winning filmmaker Jay Roach and created and written by Nancy Fichman (Nurse Jackie), Katie Ford (Miss Congeniality), and Jennifer Hoppe (Nurse Jackie). The three also serve as executive producers alongside Arquette and Ben Stiller. Arquette and Stiller have previously collaborated on Escape at Dannemora, Flirting With Disaster, and Severance, while Stiller and Roach worked on the Meet the Parents trilogy together.

High Desert’s impressive cast also includes Matt Dillon, Christine Taylor, Weruche Opia, Brad Garrett, Bernadette Peters, Rupert Friend and Keir O’Donnell. High Desert will feature eight 30-minute episodes. The first three will premiere on Apple TV+ Wednesday, May 17. The remaining episodes will air weekly on Wednesdays.
