Ahsoka Star Comments On History-Making Trio Of Female Star Wars Leads

Ahsoka is building to be one the most anticipated Star Wars shows of the year, and the Rosario Dawson led series is already making history with its trio of female leads. However, one of those stars didn’t even notice how female-centric the series was because it was all just about “making Star Wars.”

Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays General Hera Syndulla in the Mandalorian spin-off, and joins Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano and Liu Bordizzo’s Sabine Wren as one of the three actresses who will be the primary focus of the newest addition to the Star Wars franchise. While speaking to The Wrap, Winstead explained how she came to realize just how groundbreaking the show has been for putting a completely female team at the heart of the story, but that was never at the forefront of the reason for doing it. She said:

“I was saying to Rosario that I really didn’t even notice until we had been shooting for a little while — that it was such a female-led show — because we never commented on it…It was just ‘Star Wars’. We’re just all here making ‘Star Wars’. So one day, I’m like, ‘Oh my God. Wait a second. This is really amazing.’ So there’s something really revolutionary to me about the fact that we didn’t even need to talk about it.

‘Star Wars’ started a trend starting with Princess Leia and has continued and it has grown and it’s grown to the point where now, that it sort of doesn’t really matter, gender doesn’t matter. It’s ‘Star Wars’. We’re all in this together. So there’s something really special about being a part of something like that, that we don’t really need to call attention to it. Because these characters transcend gender in that way.”

Ahsoka is Another Part of the Mandalorian Era of Star Wars.

Disney Platform Distribution

This August, Ahsoka will finally give the outcast Jedi her own live-action series and continue to push the Mandalorian era of the Star Wars franchise to its ultimate conclusion of The Mandalorian movie currently being worked on by Dave Filoni.

Ahsoka’s roots are from within the animated world of Star Wars, with threads running from The Clone Wars and Rebels. The first trailer for Ahsoka revealed that the series’ villain will be Grand Admiral Thrawn, played in live-action by his Rebels voice star Lars Mikkelsen. The arrival of Thrawn is seemingly the primary reasons or Ahsoka to seek out the help of her Rebels allies Hera and Sabine. There are obviously many more secrets for the show to reveal, including the true nature of its orange-bladed lightsaber wielding “villains”, and that all seems set to make Ahsoka another popular extension of the Star Wars story.

Lucasfilm are moving full steam ahead with the Star Wars franchise in the coming years, including a wave of big screen movies, more TV shows and plenty of ideas of where the franchise is heading in the coming decade beyond that. For fans of the franchise, it should be a time to celebrate, but there is always the history of disappointment in some past instalments that still leaves many holding back their excitement just a little.
