Exclusive The Real Wild West Clip Teases the Western Docuseries

The wild west is Hollywood’s great script, and the upcoming four-part docuseries The Real Wild West tells the real story of the era, with our exclusive clip teasing what’s to come from the Curiosity Stream series. The Real Wild West, premiering globally on 29 June on Curiosity Stream in the US along with partner channels worldwide, is the definitive story of the American West – beyond the gunslingers and lawmen — where a diverse group of pioneers shaped a county and built the foundation for modern America. Join Grammy award-winning musician and bard Dom Flemons for a ride into the past… to meet the Black and Hispanic cowboys, female homesteaders, immigrants, and tribal leaders who faced unprecedented opportunity, ambition, fortune, and technological marvels to forge new paths across the wilderness.

Directed and produced by Alex Sherratt and Sarah V Burns of Roller Coaster Road Productions (The History of Food, Sound Mysteries, Growing Up Hadzabe, The History of Home), The Real Wild West will cover several subjects and icons from across time, as well as featuring all manner of experts, authors, and historians, such as:

Dr. Ora Marek-Martinez, executive director of the Native American Cultural Center, assistant professor in Northern Arizona University’s anthropology department, and founding member of the Indigenous Archeology Coalition; Dr. Alaina E. Roberts, award-winning African American, Chickasaw, and Choctaw author and historian; and Megan Kate Nelson, author and expert in the history of the American Civil War, the U.S. West, and popular culture.

But that’s not all, with The Real Wild West also set to include Renee Laegreid Ph.D, the professor of History, US West, at the University of Wyoming; Naelyn Pike, internationally renowned Indigenous rights and environmental leader; Jedediah Rogers, environmental and public historian of modern America; Jeff Sanders, sixth generation Californian horseman; Stuart Barber AKA Tame Bill, old west consultant; and many, many more.

The Real Wild West Will Feature Grammy Winner Dom Flemons

Taking the reins of The Real Wild West is Grammy award-winning musician Dom Flemons, who is famously known as The American Songster, with a repertoire covering more than 100 years of American roots music. Flemons is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music scholar, actor, slam poet, record collector, and the creator, host, producer of American Songster Radio Show on 650 AM WSM in Nashville, TN.

Flemons first came to the public’s attention in the late 2000s as a member of the Grammy-winning old-timey string ensemble the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and has since released seven albums, including the March 2023 release of Traveling Wildfire. Flemons was selected for the prestigious United States Artists Fellowship Award for the Traditional Arts category which was generously supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
