Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’s Hayley Atwell Teases Major Arctic Sequence in Mission: Impossible 8

Hayley Atwell has teased a major action sequence in the Arctic in the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One sequel, Dead Reckoning Part Two. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Atwell revealed that the icy sequence is something that has never been done on “this scale” before in the harsh surroundings of the Arctic. But as is the wont of the Mission: Impossible franchise, the cast and crew found a way.

“Nothing has ever been filmed in the Arctic for a movie of this scale. People thought that it would be impossible, and luckily, Team Mission just came in and totally invalidated that belief system. I can say that the main focus was the safety of the cast and the crew, but also the respect of the landscape out there. The territory feels unowned in a way because it’s so majestic and raw. At times, in minus 55 with a wind chill, having to get action dialogue in that takes a tremendous amount of organization and focus. So how they put that together and weave that into the story, I don’t know, but it will remain the most extraordinary place I’ve ever been on this planet and will probably ever go.“

Atwell joins the world of Mission: Impossible in as Grace, an ally of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. Often stealing the show in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Atwell will continue to play a major part in next year’s (pending any delays) follow-up, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, which promises to make things even bigger and possibly even better than its predecessor.

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has been met with critical acclaim and now sits at a deliciously fresh 96% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. “With world-threatening stakes and epic set pieces to match that massive title, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One proves this is still a franchise you should choose to accept,” the critics’ consensus reads.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen, and starring Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Esai Morales, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, and Henry Czerny, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is out now in theaters.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two meanwhile is set to be released on June 28, 2024, by Paramount Pictures.
