Saw X Poster Teases Tobin Bell’s Visceral Return as Jigsaw

In anticipation of the first trailer for the upcoming horror sequel Saw X dropping this weekend, the first poster for the tenth outing in the franchise has now dropped. And it should successfully invoke just the right amount of terror. Released via the official Twitter account for Saw X, the poster finds another unsuspecting victim strapped into one of Jigsaw’s infamous contraptions and should have fans excited to see the return of the iconic serial killer. Check out the first poster for Saw X below.

Saw X will take place between the events of Saw and Saw II, and finds a sick and desperate John Kramer traveling to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer. Of course, he soon discovers the entire operation is a scam. And this time, they have scammed the wrong man. Thus, Jigsaw returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists using his devious, deranged and ingenious traps.

Fans of the Saw franchise got their first look at the sequel/prequel last year, with a new photo being shared from the set. And it includes the return of a major character. It was previously revealed that Tobin Bell would appear in the tenth film to reprise his role as John Kramer, the mastermind behind the “Jigsaw” experiments. How he’ll be worked into the story was a mystery considering the character has long been dead in the Saw universe, but we now know that Saw X will indeed be a prequel to most of the franchise. You can catch a sneak peek at his return by checking out the set photo floating around on social media.

The image reveals Jigsaw/John Kramer dressed in dark clothing and seated on a park bench with some kind of book in hand. He’s speaking with a young boy, though there’s no way of knowing what the two are talking about in the scene at this time. “You’re not done seeing Tobin Bell at all,” Spiral director Darren Lynn Bousman said last year of Jigsaw’s return, via Bloody Disgusting, also revealing plans to flesh out an MCU-style Saw-verse. “You might see a TV series. So I think you’ll be seeing the Marvelverse of the Saw franchise, where there are different storylines taking place. And I think that that’s what it’s going to be. It’ll exist in the same universe, and there will be different storylines taking place.”

Saw X Comes to Theaters in September

Lionsgate

Lionsgate previously announced that Saw X will be coming to theaters in October 2023, though this has now been moved forward to September. The news was confirmed by producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules, who also revealed that the sequel will be directed by Kevin Greutert. Previously, Greutert helmed Saw VI and Saw 3D, though he also executive produced Jigsaw and served as an editor on the first five Saw films, as well as the eighth movie, Jigsaw.

“We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love, and part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans’ favorites in the entire series. More details will be revealed soon,” the producers said.

Saw X is set to be theatrically released on September 29, 2023, by Lionsgate Films.
