Report: Nets’ Simmons ‘100% healthy’ heading into next season

After a multitude of back injuries and recovery setbacks, Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons is 100% healthy entering next season, sources told SNY’s Ian Begley.

Simmons reportedly advanced past the rehab section of his offseason plan and is now focusing solely on skill work and conditioning, Begley adds. He is expected to be a full participant on the first day of training camp and has suffered no setbacks this summer.

The three-time All-Star has played in just 42 games with the Nets since they acquired him via trade in February 2022. He averaged a career-low 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists on 56.6% shooting from the field and 43.9% from the line last season before being shut down with a nerve impingement in his back.

Simmons is heading into the fourth season of the five-year, $177 million max deal he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of the 2020 season.

Brooklyn has undergone drastic changes since Simmons joined the fold, dealing superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Nic Claxton rose at the center position and the Nets rebuilt their wing corps with former Phoenix Suns Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson.

A healthy Simmons would be a game-changer for the Nets, who don’t have a pure point guard on the roster. They’ll look for him to find his burst offensively and play at the level that garnered him two All-Defensive team nods.

Bridges told the Podcast P Show that he had “big confidence” in Simmons for the upcoming campaign.
