The Boys Season 3 First Look Set Photos Tease ‘Girls with Guns’ Convention

New set images from The Boys season 3 were released this weekend by showrunner Eric Kripke. The images tease a gun convention for women, which is sponsored by Vought. The popular superhero series just started filming the highly anticipated third season at the end of last month, with star Anthony Starr sharing an image on social media to celebrate the occassion. The Boys is a satirical superhero series, which was developed by Kripke for Prime Video.

Since its premiere in 2019, The Boys has been immensely popular and season 3 is already gearing up to be quite weird. Eric Kripke’s latest tease from the set features advertisements for “GalGear” by Vought, which shows a woman holding an assault-style rifle in her hands with a beaming smile on her face. This particular gun convention is geared towards women with pink camouflage and a banner that spoofs Cyndi Lauper’s hit 1980s single “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” by turning it into “Girls Just Want to Have Guns.”

It’s unclear how the female-led gun convention will play into the storyline of The Boys season 3 at this time. With that being said, it has been confirmed that the season will take viewers to Herogasm in an episode directed by Jessica Chou. The episode is based on a miniseries from the comic book source material, which finds the heroes heading out for an intense party on a remote island, full of sex and drugs. In other words, season 3 is taking the show’s extreme storytelling to a new level by staying true to the comic books.

It has also been announced that Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will join the cast in The Boys season 3. Jensen Ackles will play Soldier Boy, who isn’t exactly the greatest guy. In an interview from late last year, Eric Kripke said, “In the comics he’s mostly just kind of bumbling and subservient to Homelander…” Kripke also noted that season 3 will further delve into the past of Vought, with Soldier Boy providing some details from another era. The showrunner compared the character to John Wayne with “the ego and the ambition – it just comes across in a different way because he’s from a different time.”

The Boys is based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment. Season 3 is currently in production, with a spin-off series ordered by Amazon Prime, so the future is looking pretty bright for fans of the darkly humorous take on the world of superheroes. It is currently unclear when season 3 will debut, but one can easily see it returning by the end of the year, or early next. While we wait for a release announcement, you can check out the latest set images above, thanks to Eric Kripke’s Twitter account.
