Loki Season 2 Release Date Gets Moved Forward, New BTS Featurette Released

Summary

  • Loki Season 2 has moved up the release date of the highly-anticipated premiere.
  • Disney+ will continue its new weekly release format with the hopes of expanding the audience and generating more social media interactions.
  • The second season of Loki will pick up right after the end of the first one, with Loki, Mobius and a group of new characters traveling through the multiverse again in search of Sylvie.

Tom Hiddleston is ready for some more time travel while fixing conflicts within the Marvel Studios multiverse in the second season of Loki, which has just moved its premiere date up to October 5, implementing a new strategy for Disney+ weekly releases. After the latest series from the Star Wars universe, Ahsoka, performed very well releasing under this new format, Loki moves its premiere from October 6 to October 5 at 6PM PST, with a new episode dropping every Thursday at that same time.

This format not only works well at national level, it also helps this kind of production as it premieres simultaneously with the rest of the world, expanding the audience that enjoys the episode at the moment it comes out, increasing interactions and comments on social media. Something that shows like The Last of Us or Game of Thrones have taken great advantage of.

Along with the announcement of the new premiere date, Disney+ released a new featurette which invites the audience to see what happens behind the scenes of the show. In the video, Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, newcomer Ke Huy Quan, and EP Kevin R. Wright tease the titular character’s new adventures:

Why Marvel Studios Is Releasing Fewer Shows on Disney+

Disney Platform Distribution

During the first year of Marvel Studios on Disney+, the franchise released a total of five series: WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…? and Hawkeye. In 2021, there were only three shows, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, as part of a new strategy implemented by the studio to reduce the quantity of content in order to improve the quality.

This year, Secret Invasion was the first MCU series to premiere back in June, and although other shows like Echo and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries were also initially going to premiere in 2023, they have now been delayed, so the only releases remaining are the second seasons of Loki and What If…?, which returns in December.

Although Marvel Studios films and series continue to be extremely successful, in recent years they have received a lot of criticism for things like the CGI. In fact, some titles like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania did not perform very well at the box office, so aiming for less content but with higher quality seems like a good long-term strategy for the studio.

The second season of Loki will pick up right after the end of the first one, when Loki and Sylvie came face to face with He Who Remains and Sylvie attacked him after sending Hiddleston’s character back to the TVA. In the new episodes, Loki, Mobius and a group of new characters will have to travel through the multiverse again in search of Sylvie, while dealing with the consequences of what happened in the first installment.

The cast of Loki season two also includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Tara Strong, Ke Huy Quan, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, Jonathan Majors and Owen Wilson.
