In anticipation of the home media release of the Predator outing, Prey, we’ve gotten our hands on an exclusive behind the scenes clip from the critically acclaimed sci-fi action flick. Released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu original film last year, Prey has reignited the struggling Predator franchise, dropping the alien hunter 1719 and pitting it against Amber Midthunder as Naru, a young Comanche warrior. Check out the behind the scenes footage below, which sees Midthunder offer some insight into her character and her relationship with her on-screen brother, Taabe, played by Dakota Beavers.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison, Prey follows Amber Midthunder as a skilled Comanche warrior who must protect her tribe from a highly evolved alien predator that hunts humans for sport, fighting against wilderness, dangerous colonizers and this mysterious creature to keep her people safe.

Released in August last year, Prey was met with critical acclaim, receiving praise for finding what made the Predator so iconic in the first place while introducing a compelling action hero in Midthunder’s Naru.

Will We See a Prey Sequel?

Since Prey wowed audiences and restored the Predator franchise, fans have been left wondering what’s next. And will it be Prey 2? While nothing is yet official, director Dan Trachtenberg has hinted that he could be tempted to return, should the right idea present itself.

Asked recently about such a project, the filmmaker explained how he would approach a follow-up, hoping to avoid the “traps” that often come with making sequels.

“You finally asked the right question. For everyone who’s been asking me about sequels, it’s like, that is the thing, is that oftentimes someone does a cool thing and the sequel is just….and then the next part, and then it’s like, oh, well then that’s just following up the cool. That isn’t what that thing was. And so yes, in thinking about what sequels could be, the primary conversation was and always will be, what we can do that is also special, that hasn’t happened yet. Not just for the Predator franchise, but for this kind of genre in particular. Can we still be doing something cool?”

Predator fans have been suggesting ideas for Prey 2 since last year, with one of the most popular ideas being to cast Mortal Kombat and The Last Samurai star Hiroyuki Sanada as a ronin who must battle a Predator after it kills his clan. And, frankly, it’s impossible to argue with an idea that good.

But argue Dan Trachtenberg has! With the filmmaker declaring that fans have yet to suggest the best plot for Prey 2.

“I would like to be involved, and I think there’s several really cool things to do next, and it would be interesting to embark on a few different things, rather than… And I think some of the more exciting ideas are ones that people aren’t considering, you know? Just as this movie was a, like, ‘I can’t believe they haven’t made this yet,’ there’s a few other ideas out there, for me, that are, like, ‘Oh, they haven’t done this yet. This could be cool.’ So, yeah. […] That moment [of inspiration] may have already been had.”

Prey is now available to stream on Hulu and is scheduled to be released on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD October 3, 2023.
