Giants DC on preparing for Dolphins’ juggernaut offense: ‘I wake up and cry’

New York Giants defensive coordinator Don Martindale hasn’t been able to get much sleep thanks to an upcoming matchup against the Miami Dolphins’ high-octane offense on Sunday.

“My wife called me last night before she went to bed. She said she was worried about me. She said, ‘Are you getting any sleep?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’m sleeping like a baby. Every two hours, I wake up and cry and go to the bathroom and try to go back and get some more sleep,’” Martindale said Thursday.

Martindale compared the Dolphins’ offense – led by the likes of Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and rookie rusher De’Von Achane – to the legendary St. Louis Rams “Greatest Show on Turf” unit.

“We’re all old enough to remember the ‘Greatest Show on Turf.’ This is like that, 2023, supersonic,” Martindale added. “I mean, they are fast, faster than that.”

The Dolphins lead the NFL in scoring with an average of 37.5 points per game and are two weeks removed from putting up 70 points against the Denver Broncos.

Martindale says he’s aware that Miami’s offense is going to inflict damage but that the Giants need to be ready to keep up.

“I told the defense there’s going to be plays made. You just gotta have that mentality (of) ‘Here we go again. Let’s just try to get a stop.’ … The more we can get them in third down, the better off it is for us,” the Giants coordinator noted.

The Giants enter Sunday’s game with a 1-3 record and a defense that’s allowing 30.5 points per game.
