Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce isn’t thinking about last season’s Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of their rematch on Monday night.
“I’m motivated to win the game. I don’t need the Super Bowl to motivate me to beat my brother or Andy Reid,” Kelce said, according to ESPN’s Tim McManus.
He added: “I don’t buy into Super Bowl revenge games. Each season is different. This team is not the same, that team is not the same. Nothing that happens on Monday night is going to at all change or make anything different about what happened last year.”
Kelce has never beaten his brother Travis or his former coach over his entire professional career, so he suggested finally claiming a win may motivate him more than avenging last season’s 38-35 Super Bowl defeat.
However, he joked that losing to his brother on an NFL field again wouldn’t be the end of the world.
“I’ve beat him enough in his life that I think I will still be happy,” Kelce said. “I’ve got a lot of them. It would be nice to get a win under the Eagles’ belt.”
Monday night’s highly anticipated matchup carries some similarities to Super Bowl LVII: Both the Chiefs (7-2) and Eagles (8-1) enter the contest as the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences.
