The time for holiday movies is upon us and Netflix is looking to spread some holiday with their recently released Best. Christmas. Ever! The holiday comedy follows longtime frenemies, portrayed by Heather Graham and Brandy Norwood, who are reunited during the holidays in a twist of fate. Their characters are polar opposites; Norwood’s Jackie is festive and optimistic, while Graham’s Charlotte is a self-critical skeptic who is not Christmastime’s biggest fan. As it turns out, both Graham and Norwood felt connected to their Best. Christmas. Ever! characters, something they discussed during an interview with MovieWeb.
“Well, I absolutely loved the script as a movie, and what it was about: family, reconnecting with friends, and spending the holidays with people that you love. I absolutely love my character. She has a bubbly, positive outlook on life, and just tries to find the good in everything.”
Graham who describes herself as “kind of a Scrooge,” found the film relatable for a very different reason:
“I related to the story in that I don’t really like Christmas. I’m kind of a Scrooge and I find Christmas annoying.” She adds: “I can relate to my character comparing herself to other people and being hard on herself. I always aspire to have a more positive attitude like Brandy’s character, but I’m not always 100% successful with that.”
Of course, just like Scrooge did in A Christmas Carol, there’s a lesson to learn here (it is, after all, a holiday film, and a satisfying conclusion is expected), and Graham loves that her character is able to get to a better place by the film’s end:
“I love the journey that she goes on and the end [where she lets] go of her negativity to really embrace all the good things in her life.”

Heather Graham On Collaborating with Mary Lambert for Best. Christmas. Ever!
Netflix
Best. Christmas. Ever! is directed by Mary Lambert, who began her career directing music videos for artists like The Go-Gos, Rod Stewart, The Eurythmics, and Janet Jackson. She collaborated with Madonna several times, directing the renowned musicians’ videos for “Borderline,” “Like a Virgin,” “Material Girl,” “Like a Prayer,” and “La Isla Bonita.” Her film credits include the original Pet Sematary and its 1992 sequel, Pet Sematary II; on telvision, she’s been at the helm of episodes for series including Tales from the Crypt, Arrow, and The Goldbergs.
In a recent conversation with ScreenRant, Graham opened up about working with Lambert, who she calls a trailblazer:
“She’s so cool, she’s such an interesting woman. She directed Madonna’s first music videos, and she’s a trailblazer female director. She did ‘Pet Semetary’ and all these other cool films. We had a great time working together. She’s extremely cool.”
Lambert stepped into the holiday movie world with 2021’s A Castle for Christmas. The Netflix film follows a famed American author, Sophie (portrayed by Brooke Shields), who travels to Scotland and finds herself wanting to buy a castle, but the prickly owner, a Scottish Duke named Myles (Cary Elwes), is reluctant to sell to a foreigner.
Best. Christmas. Ever! is based on an original story by Charles Shyer and Todd Calgi Gallicano. Alongside Graham and Norwood, the holiday film stars Jason Biggs and Matt Cedeño. Best. Christmas. Ever! is streaming on Netflix.
