The Boys Season 4 is almost ready to make a chaotic and bloody return to Amazon Prime Video, and will once again be pushing the boundaries of taste and decency when it does. With the spin-off series Gen V directly linking to the upcoming season, and a new trailer released last week, fans already have an idea of some of the things to expect from the new episode – but as always, they probably haven’t seen anything yet. Showrunner Eric Kripke certainly believes this, as he teased another escalation coming in Season 4, which sees more morally-dubious Supes entering The Boys’ arena.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke shared some new details about two of the new additions to the Seven, who come in the form of Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) and Firecracker (Valorie Curry). Starting with Sister Sage, Kripe explained how, unlike many of the super-powered heroes and villains of the franchise, her intelligence is actually her most dangerous asset. He said:
“It’s such a funny power. A lot of superhero worlds have that character. Whereas most of them are usually really reedy white dudes, we wanted a Black woman who was raised in a low socioeconomic area, so no one f—ing listens to her. It’s both commentary and satirical that you have literally the smartest person in the world that could cure all of society’s ills, but she just can’t get anyone to listen to her. So then she becomes a bitter misanthrope.”

Meanwhile, Firecracker arrives as a character who, as Kripke puts it, can always prove that “there’s always crazier.” Bearing similarities in intellect to Sister Sage, Firecracker is an alt-right extremist who is not someone who is going to do things quietly. Kripke added:
“It turns out, there’s always crazier. Firecracker represents both members of the conspiracy-minded movements and the super extreme right-wing news media. That character has some surprising backstory that connects her to some of the characters in our world that it was just interesting to bring in one of those pistol-packing ‘I shot my puppies’ type of characters.”
The Boys Finally Brings Jeffrey Dean Morgan to the Franchise
While there are many returning and new characters in Season 4 of The Boys including Jack Quaid, Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Jensen Ackles, and Erin Moriarty, the new episodes finally bring someone to the franchise that Kripke has wanted to involve for several years; Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Although there has been little revealed so far about Morgan’s character in the new season, fans are already hyped for his possible link-up with his former Supernatural co-star Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy in the series. After many scheduling conflicts caused by his work on The Walking Dead prevented Morgan from joining an earlier season, the popularity of the actor and the extended wait for his arrival will probably end up paying off for The Boys in the long run.

Kripke has hinted that Season 4 will ramp up the gore and controversial moments, which is pretty much par for the course by now. Season 5 has already been renewed, and production has recently started on the second season of Gen V. This means that fans of The Boys universe still have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
