The latest action-packed footage from Predator: Badlands reveals director Dan Trachtenberg has a truly epic adventure in store for fans of the long-running franchise. From a giant robot fight reminiscent of Aliens, to some bloody Predator vs. Predator action, Badlands looks to bring the franchise in a totally new direction that should please audiences this November.
20th Century Studios has released the final trailer for Predator: Badlands, which introduces the “most dangerous planet in the universe” full of brand-new creatures, including a giant kaiju. As the titular Yautja, named Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), looks to take down some dangerous prey, he will be joined by a half-destroyed Weyland-Yutani android, Thia (Elle Fanning). Dek has one chance to prove himself to his people, and it seems it will come down to battling a series of increasingly difficult enemies on the mysterious new planet. You can check out the trailer below.
Trachtenberg has taken over as the architect of the Predator property since debuting his hit streaming film Prey, which received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Earlier this year, he released an animated anthology film titled Predator: Killer of Killers, one of the highest-rated installments in the franchise. With Badlands, Trachtenberg looks to further evolve the iconic sci-fi series, while leaning on the titular creature and some surprising connections to the Alien franchise. Read the official plot synopsis:
“Predator: Badlands,” which stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
‘Predator: Badlands’ Got “Legless” for Thrilling Action Scenes
Predator: Badlands will feature a Yautja at the center as a protagonist, but Dek won’t be the only character getting in on the action. Elle Fanning recently revealed how she was able to go “legless” during the action sequences, which has her hanging on the back of the titular character. Understandably, it sounds like it was an extensive process, and as Fanning pointed out, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi had some heavy lifting to do.
“There were action sequences that I couldn’t be on the back for, but most of the time we were in harnesses. I had the blue leggings, and we had this harness for my legs so they could stick straight out from me because if they were on normally then they would get in the way of his legs. We were hooked together, and we’re flying through the air.
“Then we would have these scenes walking up a hill. We had some wire rigs, and we also had this rig that was like a wheelbarrow almost, where I was on the wheel, and he’s pulling me, and we’re rolling up. So, yeah, Dimitrius [Koloamatangi] had a lot of heavy lifting. It was called Backpack, that was the fake name– now I think people know why.”
