Ballerina is the first spinoff movie that takes place in the world of the John Wick films, but it definitely won’t be the last. Aside from the other spinoff film that’s currently in development starring Donnie Yen’s John Wick: Chapter 4 character Caine (which the action star is also directing), it seems that Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro has a violent future ahead of her in a possible sequel. Len Wiseman, the director of Ballerina, took the time to talk about how the ending of the film would shape any future stories revolving around the character, as well as the fallout of her actions.

Anyone who feels ‘Ballerina’ delivers a high body count, the original script would have broken records as well as bones.
The ending of Ballerina sees Eve finally take her vengeance on the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne), the leader of an unnamed Cult who had killed her father when she was a young girl, as shown in the beginning of the film. However, killing the leader of someone involved in the various criminal organizations in the world of John Wick inevitably leads to a $5 million bounty on her head, which is where the film ends. According to Wiseman when talking to Entertainment Weekly, Eve’s future in the John Wick films is about her dealing with the aftermath of her choice of vengeance:
“She’s checked herself into the Continental, and her next move is really sorting out how her whole life has been a lie. She now understands what her father was really doing for her, understands where she came from, and decided, ‘I’ve made a choice. I’ve got the answers that I needed, but there are consequences in this world.’ She has to now deal with the consequences that John Wick laid out to her, that Winston (Ian McShane) laid out to her. It is a brutal world. You don’t walk off into the sunset very easily. And so now Eve’s next move is how to deal with the consequences of her actions in this [movie].”
The Ending of ‘Ballerina’ is All About Consequences
Lionsgate
Every John Wick film released up to this point has, in one way or another, dealt with how the characters have to deal with the fallout from the people they’ve killed. Whether it was John Wick having to fight everyone in his path after killing a member of the High Table at the end of John Wick: Chapter 2, or in Eve’s case killing the leader of a Cult, the cycle of violence has helped to drive the plot of every film in the franchise thus far. Now, should Ballerina ever get a sequel, it will more than likely have the character on the run with a bounty on her head, much like Keanu Reeves’ character has had to do in the series.
For Wiseman, the possibilities are endless in how a follow-up to the film would deal with the consequences for not just Eve, but Wick as well. The director would say, “Also, is John completely off the hook for helping her out at the end? He technically was going by the rules in a sense, but he kind of fudged the rules a little bit. I don’t think anybody gets off kindly in this world.” Fans can go ahead and add that to the long list of reasons Wick is being hunted during the events of John Wick: Chapter 4.
With a fifth John Wick film already confirmed to be in development, it would be unsurprising to see Eve play a role in that film or a sequel to her story in Ballerina. As the world of John Wick continues to grow, fans of the franchise can expect more high-octane and expertly choreographed action. Moreover, should Ballerina prove to be a financial success, a new franchise featuring Eve could be in the cards.
