Port Wenn hosts so many festivals. It seemed odd to honor a horror author and host a “Blood Factory” when it’s not near Halloween.
However, sometimes we need to suspend timetables and calendars when watching TV, and Best Medicine Season 1 Episode 7 may be one of those times.
The play definitely had some gory, romance tropes to it, but it mainly reminded me of a Halloween festival.

The best part of “There Will Be Blood” was exploring how far Martin would go to face his fear of blood to protect someone he cared about.
Martin Tried to Keep His Blood Phobia a Secret Initiallly
I’ve grown to appreciate Martin and Elaine’s friendship. She can be irritating, but she’s loyal to him.
I loved how she defended him, saying the exact thing he and the fans often state. Martin wasn’t Dr. Reese, and he didn’t have to participate in everything Dr. Reese did.
Martin would never understand the allure of honoring a local writer’s work with blood and gore, and this one wasn’t his style.

Martin actually looked grateful that she thought to buy him groceries so that he could avoid these bloody events.
Life never worked the way he wanted, though, and accidents began at the barn, where they were rehearsing.
Best Medicine Season 1 Episode 7 Highlighted the Different Expectations Louisa and Martin Had
Best Medicine Season 1 Episode 7 combined vampires, goth, and romance, and showcased Martin and Louisa’s potential romance as they were the talk of the town.
Even though Martin went to examine one of the teens initially, he was more concerned when Louisa fainted.
She was as stubborn as a mule, insisting it was nothing, and only agreed to let him check her when all the teens stared at them, insisting they’d make out.

It had to be awkward treating your crush, especially when Martin needed Louisa to undress to examine her rash, and they acted more like awkward teens than mature adults.
I understood that she wanted all these firsts to be meaningful, and each scene was loaded with angst, but you could tell how much Martin cared about her.
I couldn’t believe that this time, Louisa refused to let Martin shut down the production, even when he suspected a faulty HVAC was making at least half the cast ill.
She’s usually reasonable, but the school fundraiser took priority over her health. She also needed him to be concerned about her as someone in her life, not just the town doctor.
The looks on people’s faces when she fired him were priceless. These two ooze chemistry, even in fighting scenes.

“There Will Be Blood” Highlighted Louisa’s Romantic Options
Living in a small town like Port Wenn made it difficult for Louisa to avoid Mark, and they still volunteered to play the bride and groom in the annual production of “Blood Factory.”
While Louisa seemed positive about her decision at the beginning of Best Medicine, she wavers more when people harass her, like Sally.
Louisa didn’t need Sally’s vile hatred or her overprotectiveness of Mark.
She already knew what a wonderful man he was, but Sally’s questions made her wonder if she’d meet someone else as good as him.

Louisa is attracted to Martin, but they’re careful around each other to avoid getting hurt. After being with Mark, who wore his heart on his sleeve, that’s different for her.
She longed for Martin to be concerned about her health because he cared about her, not just as his duty as a doctor.
Instead, Louisa broke down with her ex when they realized they were wearing wedding attire, but it wasn’t real. I loved that they both realized the other wasn’t feeling well, and that Louisa knew to call Martin.
As much as I enjoy Louisa and Mark’s friendship, I’m relieved Louisa was not pregnant with his child. We don’t need an extra complication to this triangle.
I suspect Martin and Louisa are the rooting couple, so let’s give them time to get it right.

Martin Proved He Could Overcome His Fear for the Right Person
Martin learned how to practice what he preached. I adore him in scenes with Peter, as he’s always kinder to him than anyone else.
But after he saw how Peter was going face his fears of these scary festivals, he knew he needed to be brave, too.
I love that Martin kept chanting to himself that blood was red paint and other ingredients as he kept going deeper into the bridal chamber.
The new groom, standing in for Mark, was an idiot. He couldn’t even tell that Louisa didn’t feel well and truly needed help, and this wasn’t part of the script.
It was so symbolic that, as Martin rushed through the barn, Louisa started yelling for help. They’re in tune with each other even when they don’t realize it.

It was very Romeo and Juliet that Martin fainted in a coffin next to Louisa, and I loved how Elaine was so proud of him, but all he cared about was informing Louisa about her condition.
While she wanted him to care about her as more than her doctor, he needed to be that again with her having hemochromatosis, a blood disorder that causes her to have too much iron.
It seemed to her that he would even learn how to take blood, something he’d never done before.
Other Port Wenn Gossip
Besides the teens whispering about Martin and Louisa, almost everyone weighed in on certain relationships. As mentioned, it’s part of small-town charm,
First, there was Aunt Sarah. Multiple people noticed that she was struggling to earn enough money to renew her lobster license and looked injured, so she drew attention when Eddie McCroy flirted with her.

He’s crass and rude, but he likes her, which was why she lowered her pride enough to request his help with lobstering, even offering him a percent of the cut.
It was so cute, though, when he offered to help her if she’d allow him to take her out.
While she refused the date, she started to soften again, and I suspect we will see a date or another steamy kiss soon. You go, Aunt Sarah. Get some help and a man at the same time.
Did we know how different Greg and George were? Greg was shameless and would do anything to get Port Wenn and the Salty Breeze recognized, while George was a stickler for rules.
I laughed at George’s antics in front of the reporters, but no one cared. They only cared about meeting the author, and suddenly, he arrived.

My heart went out to Al. He reminds me of that dog, loving and so eager to please Elaine. He’s willing to do odd jobs to prove his worth to her.
Watching them act as the doomed couple in the Blood Factory was entertaining. They were sexy, all tied up, but I felt for Al again.
He tried to create the perfect moment, and Elaine kissed him, but she still longs to leave town.
Does Elaine not believe in romance because she sure seemed eager to push Martin and Louisa together, so much so that it made them awkward.

They are a hot topic among everyone, and we hope they’ll set sail soon.
