  • Jon Favreau Addresses the Possibiltiy of a Mandalorian Movie

The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ in March for a third season, but will there ever be an outing for Pedro Pascal’s Mando on the big screen.

Disney Platform Distribution

A movie version of The Mandalorian has been suggested previously by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy back in 2020, but is that still part of the grand plan for the Star Wars series? Although an “event movie” was teased as a potential climax of the show, creator Jon Favreau has given his opinion on whether a cinematic outing is still on the cards for Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin. He told Variety:

“There’s always an opportunity when you have a set of characters and stories that people connect with that you could cross media into different areas. Marvel does it quite effectively. It’s just a matter of where our time should be spent and what the appetite of the audience is. With all these stories we’re telling, it definitely is a full-time job just keeping this going with what we’re doing now. Television has a much different rhythm and schedule than film does.”

The Mandalorian is currently about to begin its third season on Disney+, and Favreau has already noted that a fourth season is in development. Where exactly Mando’s story will end is still unknown, and with the popularity of the series, and the expanding universe it inhabits, it is likely that any big screen finale is still probably some way off if it does ever happen.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Will Expand the World of Din Djarin.

Disney+

The Mandalorian has already travelled the galaxy in its first two seasons, and the new season will continue to develop the world that Pedro Pascal’s hero inhabits. This will include a trip to the planet of Mandalore for the first time in the series. Favreau previously teased what the new season is going to deliver for fans. He said:

“I will say that the scope of it is getting bigger, we have really cool space battles, we have lots of Mandalorians, we have the planet of Mandalore which we’ve been talking about for a long time. We get to see the Mandalorian culture, and many of the wonderful actors you’ve seen in previous seasons return, and you’ll see them all work together on this show. It’s been a very ambitious season, a lot of our directors have returned, we have a very experienced team that have been working together for a long time and I think a lot of people are going to enjoy what we have in store.”

The Mandalorian is already one of the most watched shows on Disney+, and with the trailer for the third season being a record breaker, there is no one who would bet against the series smashing its own record on the platform. The synopsis for the season reads:

“The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.”
