Who:
Founded in 2024 by designer Merill Hollander, Fiametta is a fine jewelry brand that produces small batch designs using recycled gold, responsibly sourced antique and natural gemstones, and lab-grown diamonds created using renewable solar and wind-powered energy.
The brand’s name, Fiametta, is derived from the the Italian word for flame (fiamma) — a nod to a diamond’s fire and the intended wearer of the jewelry: someone unafraid of unapologetic self-expression.
Drawing from her experience as a queer woman, Hollander considers jewelry a powerful tool for self-expression. Her work explores the space between tradition and reinvention, encouraging a more intentional relationship with heritage — keeping what resonates and reshaping what doesn’t.

Hollander is a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America and holds an MBA from the Wharton School and prior to founding Fiametta, she built her expertise in the luxury sector through roles in strategy and buying at Bloomingdale’s, Tory Burch, and Else. Today, she brings that experience together with a deeply personal vision, creating jewelry that invites each wearer to tell their own story, piece by piece.
Fiametta has been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Forbes and worn by celebrities including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Hudson Williams, Dakota Johnson, Tommy Dorfman, and Zoe Saldaña and is available at fine retailers including TROVE, Broken English, Goop, and ModaOperandi.com.
Why:
Signet rings have been in use for thousands of years. Originating in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, they were traditionally worn by men and functioned primarily as practical tools — acting as a personal signature or seal stamped in hot wax or clay to authorize legal documents, business deals, and letters. These days, most signet rings, (like this one) are purely ornamental, but they still carry that air of power and authority and a certain masculine energy, which makes them all the more alluring, especially combined with more delicate pieces.

“My favorite way to style this ring is as a pinky ring,” says Hollander. “I love how adding a bolder and chunkier style as a pinky ring can add some edge to a jewelry look. This is one of my staple pieces from the collection that I wear everyday in our diamond colorway but I love our blue sapphire colorway as well for those looking to add color to their look. The blue sapphires we use are particularly special to me because of how unique they are in shade. We’re known for using a bright, almost violet-blue shade of sapphires that are only found in Sri Lanka and I’m especially proud that we’re able to offer these distinct sapphires and still uphold our sourcing values.”
