It’s already bikini season — at least according to Hailey Bieber, who hit the beach in Cabo on Feb. 28 wearing a bikini trend that you likely remember from the early aughts. Not only was the 26-year-old supermodel’s Skims three-piece swimsuit a neon lime green, which could be spotted from miles away, but it also featured boy shorts with a fold-over waistline. As soon as she took a dip, the sheer material revealed a matching thong bottom underneath, although she treated her micro-mini shorts as swimsuit bottoms all on their own, jumping in and out of the water with ease. Bieber styled the beachside outfit with little more than a bright-red New York Yankees baseball cap from New Era and her go-to gold hoop earrings from Jennifer Fisher.
Bieber is currently vacationing on a girls’ trip amid a flurry of social media chatter about her feud with Selena Gomez. Though she has remained quite silent on the topic as it’s gained steam, Gomez’s fans have been commenting on all of Bieber’s recent Instagram shares with “#teamselena” and “rarebeauty,” which is Gomez’s makeup line. However, just a few days ago, it was reported that Bieber temporarily limited comments on her posts due to the frenzy.
Bieber often leans into the late ’90s and early aughts when it comes to fashion, so it’s no surprise that she carried out this retro “fold-over” look. She’s a big fan of low-rise jeans, micro minidresses, baby tees, and bucket hats, to name a few. In fact, when she posted some throwback photos from her 2021 Jamaica getaway with Kendall Jenner, she was wearing a green thong bikini that was similar to her most recent look, so perhaps she was feeling inspired by her trip down memory lane.
Ahead, see Bieber’s bright-green early-aughts swimsuit set, and get excited for the warm weather to come by shopping her exact Skims look for yourself.
