Jean Shafiroff is more than just a name; it’s a brand synonymous with dedication, generosity, and impactful change in the world of philanthropy. As a renowned humanitarian, TV host, author, and volunteer fundraiser, Shafiroff has carved a unique niche for herself, earning the moniker “the first lady of philanthropy” from the press for her tireless efforts to support and uplift various causes.

Shafiroff’s commitment to giving back is evident in her extensive involvement with numerous charitable organizations. She currently serves on the boards of eight organizations, including the Southampton Hospital Foundation, NYC Mission Society, Couture Council of the Museum at FIT, French Heritage Society, Casita Maria, the NY Women’s Foundation, Global Strays, and the Honorary Board of the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation. Her dedication extends beyond board membership as she chairs upwards of eight to ten charity galas each year, leveraging her influence and network to raise significant funds for critical initiatives.

Beyond formal roles, Shafiroff opens her New York homes to host and underwrite large cocktail parties, providing a platform for nonprofits to connect with potential donors and raise awareness for their missions. Her philanthropic interests are diverse, encompassing women’s rights, the rights of underserved populations, healthcare, and animal welfare.

Shafiroff’s impact is felt across a broad spectrum of causes. Her long-standing commitment to the Jewish Board, a prominent mental health service charity, spans 28 years, culminating in her current role as an Honorary Trustee. This dedication speaks volumes about her belief in accessible mental healthcare for all. Further demonstrating her commitment to animal welfare, Shafiroff served as the national spokesperson for American Humane’s “Feed the Hungry” COVID-19 program. This initiative successfully raised $1,000,000, providing food for over 1,000,000 animals residing in 100 shelters across the United States during a time of unprecedented need.

Her commitment to philanthropy extends to the airwaves with her television show, “Successful Philanthropy,” which airs on LTV studios in East Hampton, NY, and Sun20TV in Southampton, NY. As producer and host, Shafiroff interviews politicians, celebrities, business leaders, and philanthropic figures, fostering insightful conversations and inspiring viewers to engage in their own acts of giving. She has even interviewed a US presidential candidate on her show, highlighting her commitment to informing the public and promoting civic engagement. Beyond her own program, she is a frequent guest on TV shows and podcasts, offering her expertise and insights on philanthropy and fashion.

Shafiroff’s journey to becoming a philanthropic leader began with a solid educational foundation. She holds a BS in Physical Therapy and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University. Her decision to work as a physical therapist at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City after college exposed her to the challenges faced by patients living in poverty and solidified her desire to make a difference in the lives of others. After earning her MBA, she honed her financial skills as an investment banker on Wall Street, providing her with a unique perspective on wealth management and its potential for social good.

Shafiroff’s contributions have been duly recognized and celebrated. She has received numerous honors from organizations such as American Humane, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, The Urban Resource Institute, Mission Society of NYC, French Heritage Society, Southampton Animal Shelter, Surgeons of Hope, Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, and many more. These accolades highlight the breadth and depth of her impact across various sectors.

Adding to her impressive list of distinctions, Shafiroff was named “Philanthropist of the Year” by Dan’s Papers in December 2020. Since then, Dan’s Papers has honored her at least four more times for her ongoing philanthropic endeavors.

In a testament to her significant contributions, September 2022 marked a milestone when New York State Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright officially proclaimed her the “First Lady of Philanthropy of New York.” Just months later, in November 2022, the 117th US Congress recognized Shafiroff for her unwavering dedication to philanthropy, an honor bestowed by US Representative Carolyn Maloney.

Beyond her formal roles and accolades, Shafiroff has cultivated a strong presence as an Instagram influencer. Her account, @JeanShafiroff, boasts over 1.2 million followers, providing her with a platform to connect with a global audience and promote philanthropic causes.

Jean Shafiroff’s story is one of inspiration, demonstrating the power of dedication, hard work, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact.

Her commitment to philanthropy serves as a beacon, encouraging others to embrace their own potential for giving and contribute to a better world. Her work continues to inspire and empower individuals to become active participants in building stronger, more equitable communities. She is an international leader who strives to motivate people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in the philanthropic process.
