Sunisa Lee took to Instagram to show off her summertime look on Aug. 17, rocking a white ribbed crop top and black pants, proving that you can take little more than wardrobe building blocks and style a look that stops traffic. She captioned her evening rooftop shot with the words, “just me.”
Though an athleisure look most often starts with sportswear bottoms and a more elevated and tailored top (see: Jennifer Lopez’s latest take on the bike-shorts trend), Lee has turned that notion on its head by opting for a sporty halter-style tank and more refined cargo trousers, which feature buckles at the front and grommet-finished pockets at the back and mid thighs.
We last saw Lee for a public appearance in a markedly different look, as she hit the red carpet back in July at the ESPY Awards wearing an embellished slip dress from Fendi. The design was dazzling, with sequins shaped into the Milan-based fashion house’s iconic “F” logo and two revealing slits at the bust line that wrapped around the rib cage. It made for a sultry moment that was completed with square-toe sandals, delicate rings, stud earrings, and a beauty look that involved french-tip nails, a wispy updo, and glittery eyeshadow to play up the details of her dress.
Clearly, the gold medalist knows how to dress for anything the day may throw at her, but this athleisure vibe is an outfit formula Lee has reached for on many occasions, utilizing everything from Y2K-approved cargo pants to high-waisted jeans and sneakers.
