It’s been a minute since Season 3 of Gangs of London came to a conclusion in the UK, leaving fans eagerly waiting to hear what would become of the action thriller series. Well, wait no longer, because we now know the fate of the popular British saga that’s based on a 2006 video game, and the news is nothing but good.
Per Deadline, Sky Atlantic has officially given the go-ahead for Gangs of London Season 4, with the news being announced at the Edinburgh TV Festival. The series premiered back in 2020 in the UK before AMC took over U.S. distribution rights from Cinemax, and Season 2 made its debut back in 2022. Season 3 aired overseas in March of this year, but, sadly, AMC has yet to announce when the latest season of Gangs of London will air in the States, making the Season 4 announcement bittersweet for U.S. viewers who still haven’t gotten a chance to watch what the UK audience has already seen.
Starring Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù as Elliot Carter, an undercover police officer-turned-criminal, Gangs of London is set in modern times and examines what happens after one of the city’s most powerful crime lords is assassinated, thus creating a power vacuum and igniting warfare among international criminal factions. Also starring Joe Cole, Narges Rashidi, and Harry Potter’s new Severus Snape for the first two seasons, Paapa Essiedu, Gangs of London was created by Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery, and is based on the 2006 video game that was developed by London Studio and published on the Playstation Portable by Sony.

Currently holding an overall rating of 84% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, Gangs of London came out of the gate strong when it made its debut five years ago, with Season 1 earning a Certified Fresh rating of 91%. Olly Richards from NME compared it to another popular British crime drama, noting that the two are on the same level:
“With a long wait until Peaky Blinders returns, there’s room for another lavish, sprawling crime drama. Gangs of London confidently barges its way into that space. It could well wind up challenging for the title of best crime drama on British TV.”
Sophie Gilbert from The Atlantic was another who had nothing but good things to say about Gangs of London, writing that the series “exists on a fully realized plane of its own, where brutality is power, death is inevitable, and even the pigeons are on cocaine.” While the show has been criticized by some for its violence, John Doyle from The Globe and Mail says that “for those who can take it, the series is really an intriguing chess game about seizing power.” Critic Lindsay Traves adds that it’s perfect for Guy Ritchie fans, and anyone else who loves a good crime thriller:
“By being one part The Departed, one part Guy Ritchie movie, and splashed with the blood of a thousand The Raids, Gangs of London ends up scratching multiple itches simultaneously.”
Needless to say, Gangs of London fans have a lot to celebrate today with the Season 4 announcement, but the question remains: When will Season 3 finally air in the United States? We don’t have an answer just yet, but we’ll be sure to let everyone know when AMC makes a decision.
