Fine art photographer James Katsipis is being honored and interviewed below as WhiteWall, has been awarded the 2026 TIPA World Award for BEST PHOTOLAB SERVICE, category by the international expert jury of the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). The award recognizes WhiteWall’s Shopify integration as a scalable e-commerce solution for professional photographers, artists, and galleries.
The TIPA World Awards are among the most prestigious accolades in the international photography and imaging industry. Each year, 25 editorial teams from leading photography magazines and platforms select the most innovative products and services of the past year—a jury whose verdict carries global weight.
“We are incredibly proud of this award. It confirms, above all, our consistent development of digital solutions and our commitment to providing photographers and artists with the best possible support. I am especially pleased by the recognition for our IT team, which implemented the Shopify integration,” says Alexander Nieswandt, founder and CEO of WhiteWall.
“The Shopify integration specifically addresses the needs of our customers who want to professionally market their work—whether photography, illustration, or art. The fact that this development has now also been recognized by the TIPA jury is a special validation for us,” adds Thomas Alscheid, Managing Director of WhiteWall.
Shopify Integration: Global Distribution Made Easy
The new Shopify integration makes WhiteWall products accessible worldwide and creates a fully automated workflow—from upload to shipping. Fine art prints, acrylic glass mountings, framed pictures, and many other products can be flexibly configured in the shop, while orders are processed automatically.
The print-on-demand model without inventory, combined with efficient fulfillment processes and international scalability, significantly lowers the barriers to entry for photographers, artists, and galleries. At the same time, shop operators retain full control over prices, margins, and brand presence. The solution thus provides a powerful, future-proof infrastructure for professional direct sales and makes the global art market more accessible than ever.
With this award, WhiteWall once again solidifies its position as a leading premium photo lab while sending a strong signal about the future of digital photo and art sales. This marks the ninth time the company has been honored with a TIPA World Award.

WhiteWall photographer James Katsipis from the U.S. demonstrates how the Shopify integration works in practice.
James has been using the integration since last fall to successfully sell his work online. What makes the difference for him is the seamless connection between his shop and WhiteWall’s production. It takes time-consuming processes off his hands, frees him up for creative work, and simultaneously gives him direct access to customers worldwide. This allows him to continuously expand his reach and focus fully on what matters most—his photography.
James Katsipis, Fine Art Photographer
In this interview, he shares insights into his work and his experiences with the Shopify integration:
To start off: Tell us briefly who you are—and what defines your photographic style.
I’m James Katsipis, a fine art photographer born and raised at the “End of the World” in Montauk, New York. For over twenty years, the Atlantic Ocean has been my primary muse, shaping both my life and my lens. My photography style is a technical and emotional study of the natural flow of the elements—capturing the raw, cinematic energy of the coast from my home tracks in Montauk to distant shores all over the world.
When did you start using Shopify, and how would you describe your shop?
I launched my Shopify store two years ago. Before that I had used a different platform. I needed to give my work a permanent home that could also integrate my physical gallery in Montauk as well as my online store. Everything is all tracked in one place now. My online store is a curated gallery where I offer fine art prints, from my limited edition “Mermaids of Montauk” series to my fine art landscapes and abstract ocean series “Blurz”. It’s designed to be clean and immersive, letting the imagery tell my story.
How did you manage the shop before using the WhiteWall integration, and how did you discover WhiteWall?
Before the integration, it was a total pain. I was manually handling files, chasing down printers, and worrying about shipping logistics myself and often dealing with prints arriving damaged to clients. It took me away from my camera and art. WhiteWall’s reputation is legendary in the photography world—once I saw their acrylic and aluminum finishes, I knew that was the standard my work needed. And they know how to safely package their work for shipping, which is key.
How easy was it to integrate WhiteWall into your Shopify store? Has your workflow changed as a result?
The integration was seamless. It honestly felt like flipping a switch. Now, the workflow is automated. As an order comes in, it goes to production, and it ships. I no longer have to play the middleman. It has freed up my time to be out in the field shooting or traveling, knowing the backend is handled perfectly. It’s a huge stress off my shoulders.
What is the biggest advantage of WhiteWall’s Shopify integration?
The biggest benefit is how it eliminates human error. Before this, there were so many manual steps where things could go sideways—entering addresses, selecting the right finishes, or managing file transfers. Now, the integration handles all those logistics with precision and leaves me out of the equation.
It has fundamentally changed my business by freeing up an incredible amount of time and capital. Instead of being buried in administrative tasks or overhead costs, I can reinvest that energy and money back into my craft—getting out in nature and creating more art. The entire process from the moment a collector hits “buy” to the moment a gallery grade print arrives at their door is now faster and completely seamless. It has allowed me to focus on being a photographer again rather than a shipping manager.
What advice would you give to other photographers or artists considering selling through WhiteWall with Shopify?
It’s been such a game changer for my business. If you want to spend your time creating art instead of packing boxes and inputting orders all day, this is the move. You get to offer your clients world-class German engineering and print quality without having to manage a warehouse. They are the best printers in the world.
How important is it for you to offer high-quality prints on demand without holding inventory?
It’s everything. In a place like Montauk or NYC, space is at a premium. Not having to hold tubes of paper or crates of frames allows me to stay lean and save space in my gallery. Plus, “on demand” means every piece is custom made for the collector, which adds to the value.
Do you ship outside the U.S. as well? How important are reliable fulfillment and international shipping options?
I do ship internationally. For my U.S. collectors, reliability is the most important factor. They expect a premium product to arrive in perfect condition. Having WhiteWall’s global logistics network behind me means I don’t have to stress about a print getting stuck in customs or damaged halfway across the world.
Do you have a favorite product? Which formats are particularly popular? Are there any bestsellers?
My favorite—and that of my customers—are the gallery-quality acrylic prints. They really bring out colors and depth. Bestsellers include, for example:
Ditch at Dusk
Shadmoor Blurz
Lazy Lights
I’m always surprised by which images particularly move visitors. Everyone has their own connection to the subjects.
Which of your photos should be printed and hung on the wall?
Anything that makes you feel. Any photograph that evokes a genuine emotion.
If you had to describe WhiteWall in three words?
Precision. Quality. Freedom.
