Jenna Fischer Is Interested in Doing a Movie Revival for The Office

Summary

  • Jenna Fischer and co-star Angela Kinsey are down to reprise their roles of Pam Beesly and Angela Martin, respectively, in a movie revival of The Office.
  • Bryan Cranston appeared on Fischer and Kinsey’s Office Ladies podcast and discussed directing the season 9 episode, Work Bus.
  • Cranston, Fischer and Kinsey recalled how everyone was almost killed by the bus’ mobile AC unit, which led to the cast and crew referring to the show as the “Death Bus.”

Bryan Cranston brings his trademark sense of humor along for the ride — not for another trip on the “Death Bus,” though — when he swings by and visits with the Office Ladies. Yes, the star of Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad joined The Office podcast to close out January. And during his episode, the Emmy Award-winner asked hosts Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey if they would reprise their roles as Pam Beesly and Angela Martin, respectively, for a revival movie. Cranston pondered (via the Office Ladies):

“Let’s say that there’s not a reboot series, but what if there was a movie? Something to where we can see where these people are. These people in the entire cast that we’re curious about. We wondered at the end, where did they go? What did become of them?”

Fischer answered:

As long as Greg [Daniels] is writing it, and he’s in charge of it, then I say yes.

Kinsey added:

I would do it for my kids because I think they would think that’s fun.

Cranston responded:

I just want to be an extra in it. I would be some guy. I’d be a crossing guard or something like that. Just something.

For those fans of The Office who are interested in listening to Cranston’s appearance on Fischer and Kinsey’s thoughtful and wildly entertaining podcast, check out the synopsis for Episode 194: An Interview with Bryan Cranston below:

“This week the ladies chat with Bryan Cranston! Bryan Cranston is well-known for playing Walter White on ‘Breaking Bad,’ Hal from ‘Malcolm and the Middle’ and so many more incredible, award-winning acting credits, but he also directed ‘Work Bus!’

Bryan shares what it was like to be given this opportunity and how he thought he would get to direct in the well air-conditioned ‘Office’ set but instead found himself working in the now legendary ‘Death Bus.’ Jenna, Angela and Bryan also chat about sharing birthdays, traveling and even taking yourself out bowling. This is a wonderful episode, enjoy!”

The Office’s Infamous ‘Death Bus’

Bryan Cranston has won a total of six Emmys (4 acting, 2 producing) for his incomparable work on the hit television series Breaking Bad. And while Cranston is also known by Seinfeld fans for his indelible appearances on “the show about nothing,” as dentist Tim Whatley, the Hollywood creative also directed the season 9 episode of The Office titled Work Bus. And during his appearance on the Office Ladies podcast, Fischer, Kinsey and Cranston reflected on the impossible working conditions which were faced while making that particular show.

Seasons 9

One of the big issues which led to the episode being referred to as the “Death Bus” by The Office cast and crew was that there wasn’t initially any air conditioning available to cool off the cramped set. And Fischer remembered when a small portable AC unit was hooked up to the bus. Unfortunately, Fischer recalled smelling a foul odor while shooting on the “Death Bus.” Cranston hurried over to the source and discovered that carbon dioxide was being pumped onto the set rather than cool air! Cranston shouted:

As it turns out, the portable AC unit was being towed behind the bus. And, as a result, the fumes from the exhaust pipe were being pumped onto the set and effectively poisoning everyone! Fortunately, Fischer’s “sensitive nose” picked up the stench and ended up saving everyone’s lives.

The Office is available to stream on Peacock, at the time of this writing. And be sure to check out Cranston’s appearance on the Office Ladies podcast in its entirety right now.
