2025 is shaping up to be a phenomenal year for action blockbuster releases, with one particular highlight being the first John Wick spinoff film, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. Directed by Len Wiseman and produced by mainline series director Chad Stahelski, the film takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, with Ana de Armas starring as the titular character Eve Macarro. Eve is on her own quest for revenge in the film, with the initial trailer showcasing visceral and grounded action not too dissimilar to what’s seen in the John Wick films.
Thanks to USA Today, fans have a new look at the film. The new image (seen below) showcases de Armas’ character, Eve, facing off against an unknown assailant. The movie is steeped heavily into the lore of the John Wick films, featuring a cameo from Keanu Reeves as the Baba Yaga himself, along with Continental mainstay Ian McShane as Winston and Lance Reddick in his final posthumous role as Charon. The John Wick franchise has always hinted at a larger assassin world, which is a large part of what makes the series so entertaining, and this first spinoff film is the perfect opportunity to capitalize on the foundation laid within the original films.
Moreover, Eve is a character who is part of the Ruska Roma, the same family as John Wick. This gives Ballerina a chance to expand on the type of upbringing that not only Eve but also John became accustomed to, which helped shape them into the assassins they are later in life. Overall, there’s plenty to be excited about regarding the future of the John Wick film series.
The Future of ‘John Wick’ is Bright and Bloody
While John Wick fans have the upcoming Ballerina spinoff to look forward to, there are also other potential films set in the same world that could be coming sooner rather than later. Caine, the blind hitman who played an integral role in John Wick: Chapter 4, portrayed by legendary action star Donnie Yen, also has a spinoff film of his own in the works. Moreover, it was recently revealed that Yen may even be directing the upcoming feature. Caine is last seen in a post-credits scene in Chapter 4, where the character Akira (Rina Sawayama) gets ready to attempt to kill Caine.

Keanu Reeves opens up about his potential return to ‘John Wick 5.’
There are plenty of revenge stories in John Wick’s world, but all that remains to be seen is whether Len Wiseman has crafted one that stands tall next to the unexpectedly riveting story of Wick’s quest for vengeance and peace for himself. The trailers showcase Ana de Armas’ ability to match the physicality of Keanu Reeves and then some, which is a good enough sign already.
Ballerina has plenty of expectations to live up to and is sure to be a standout of the stacked list of films set to be released in 2025. While there have been rumors of another mainline John Wick film in the works, fans will have to satisfy their need for gun-fu action with Ballerina and whatever other spinoff film potentially in development.
