The Dungeons & Dragons reboot has its official title. Currently in the works for a March 2023 release, the live-action film’s official Instagram account posted a video clip, unveiling the movie’s official title in motion with epic music playing. As shown in the video, which you can check out below, the film will be called Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
The film comes from Paramount Pictures in association with eOne. It is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. The two co-wrote the screenplay with Michal Gilio based on a story by Gilio and Chris McKay. Jeremy Latcham, Brian Goldner, and Nick Meyer produced with executive producers including Denis L. Stewart, Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Chris Pine, Zev Foreman, and Greg Mooradian.

Not much information has been divulged about Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, though it will obviously take a lot of inspiration from the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. In a previous interview with Collider, Chris Pine said that the project was a blast to work on, describing the end result as a mix of Game of Thrones and The Princess Bride with a few dashes of Monty Python and the Holy Grail and The Goonies sprinkled in.
“Oh man. Well, what I will say is we had a hell of a fun time making it. There was a lot of laughs. The way that I’ve been describing it, it’s like Game of Thrones mixed with a little Princess Bride, just a smidge of Holy Grail; it’s somewhere in that ballpark. It’s a lot of fun. It’s got a lot of thrills. It’s poppy, it’s eighties heartfelt, there’s a bit of Goonies in there. My character, he’s the ultimate party planner. I think it’s going to be really good. I mean, who fucking knows, but I think we got a good shot and John and John are killer guys. They know comedy and they know heart and we had a great cast and we had a good time making it. And that’s all you can ask for.”
Let’s hope it’s better received than the live-action movie that hit theaters back in 2000. That film, which starred Justin Wahlin, Marlon Wayons, Jeremy Irons, and Thora Birch, was a box office bomb when it was released. To make matters worse, the critical reception was almost universally negative, landing the film with a 10% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Hasbro has been hoping that a fresh take on the franchise more than 20 years later will turn out differently. Meanwhile, other D&D projects are in the works, such as a live-action series from Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will be released in theaters on March 3, 2023.
