The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been heavily criticized in a number of ways in the last few years. Now, the arrival of Deadpool & Wolverine has led to some Marvel fans calling out the hypocrisy of the fandom over their treatment of one particular She-Hulk scene. Be aware, there could be spoilers for those out there who have not yet seen Deadpool & Wolverine.
Deadpool & Wolverine is tearing up the box office charts just as the titular characters tear into each other on multiple occasions throughout the film. From the opening moments, the film does everything you could expect from such a team-up, and from the “most Deadpool movie of all Deadpool movies.” This includes a brutal opening dance number set to N*Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye”, in which Deadpool dispatches dozens of TVA agents with the desecrated Adamantium corpse of Wolverine, while interspersing scenes of Deadpool throwing out a full N*Sync dance routine. Hilarious in the eyes of all who have witnessed it themselves, according to social media.

But if we skip back to 2022, when She-Hulk: Attorney at Law revealed a post-credits scene in which Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer had a celebratory twerk-off with Megan Thee Stallion, the reaction was a little bit different. This could also be said for several other dance orientated moments that have been ridiculed over the last couple of years. The twerking scene became a single point of reference for many 1-star reviews She-Hulk on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now the hypocrisy of the polar-opposite responses has been called out on – of course – the same X/Twitter platform, leading to another of those healthy, completely friendly, and mutually understanding debates about why She-Hulk’s “worst moment” can be closely compared to one of Deadpool & Wolverine’s best.
MCU Fans Cannot Agree on Many Things
While Deadpool & Wolverine has received almost unanimous praise from audiences, continuing to hold one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience scores of the Marvel franchise, it seems to be one of the few things in the MCU that almost everyone agrees on.
Even the comparisons between reactions to the movie’s dance-orientated scenes drew contrasting reactions. Some agreed that Deadpool & Wolverine is a movie that has been able to get away with what it does because of its target audiences being “straight males,” while others stand by their belief that She-Hulk was just a “sad, unfunny show with a hollow tacked on scene that does not compare with Deadpool.” This is probably not the biggest surprise, as it can be very hard to find a unanimous decision on social media on any subject.

The Deadpool star also revealed a striking new poster inspired by Forrest Gump.
However, the Marvel Universe rolls on regardless. Derided characters like Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and others will undoubtedly be back again in the future, as will Deadpool and, possibly, Wolverine in his Hugh Jackman form. While the 2023 box office took a hit, Deadpool & Wolverine is more than making up for it. With the fandom currently lining both sides of the fence to argue the subject of whether Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom casting is right or wrong, it seems that this kind of heated debate is all just part of the package.
