returns this year in writer and director James Gunn’s DCU reboot. Moving from the MCU to the world of DC, Gunn takes the reins of this new comic book movie franchise, and while the iconic superhero did not make an appearance at this year’s Super Bowl, the movie took full advantage of an event that’s just as important: the Puppy Bowl.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman stars David Corenswet (Twisters, Hollywood) in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men movies, Juror #2) as Lex Luthor. The film also stars Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham), Nathan Fillion (the Guardians of the Galaxy films, The Suicide Squad), Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus), Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza, Booksmart), Sara Sampaio (At Midnight), María Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys), Wendell Pierce (Selma, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Alan Tudyk (Creature Commandos, Andor), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Bird Box) and Neva Howell (Greedy People).
Superman is DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, and is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

Krypto the Superdog Will Make His Big Screen Debut in ‘Superman’
As well as introducing a more fledgling version of the Man of Steel, Superman will finally bring his best pal, Krypto the Superdog to the big screen. First introduced on the cusp of the Golden Age of comics, Krypto made his debut in “Adventure Comics #210” back in 1955. Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Curt Swan, the beloved canine companion has had a few different origins over the years, from being part of a parallel universe to being part of an experiment to clone Superman. Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XXI kicked off with a special message from Gunn and his own dog Ozu, the inspiration behind Krypto.

‘Superman’ may face problems releasing in select countries…
“This movie at the end of the day is not about power. This movie is about a loose term of the word a human being and who he is as a person and virtually struggling in his day-to-day life, and we see a different aspect of him in the beginning. His relationship with Krypto is complicated. He’s not nearly the best dog.”
Gunn has teased that there’s more to Krypto’s inclusion than simply giving audiences the delight of spending time with the Man of Steel’s best boy, but we will have to wait a little longer to see exactly what that means for the movie. As the first live-action interpretation of the canine, it is just one of the reasons this version of Superman is a very interesting entry in DC’s history.
