Legacy Script “Is Great”, According To VFX Designer

Summary

  • Fans eagerly await the release of Superman: Legacy, the first official project from the new DCU, headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
  • VFX designer Stephane Ceretti praises Gunn’s script, emphasizing the talented team working on the film and their strong working dynamics.
  • Gunn draws inspiration from various Superman comics, including Superman: Birthright and All-Star Superman, to create his vision of the superhero for the big screen.

There’s still a long way to go for fans to get to meet David Corenswet version of the Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy, the first official project of the new DCU created by James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-CEOs of DC Studios.

The new movie centered on the Last Son of Krypton is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, but Gunn and his team are already working on it, at least as much as they can considering the ongoing strikes at Hollywood. And as the process behind the film advances, details about what’s going on with it start to emerge.

In a recent interview with Comic Book, VFX designer Stephane Ceretti praised Gunn’s script for Superman: Legacy while sharing details of the team that’s working on the movie, which includes some long-time collaborators of the director:

“I can’t tell you much about Superman. I really cannot. But all I can tell you is it’s going to be good. It’s a great script. We’re trying hard. We’re a good group. It’s all a good group of people. A lot of people that have worked with James before that he trusts. We’re a very good group in terms of being very honest to each other. So we work well in that sense.”

Superman: Legacy will also star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Moner as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific. The movie will be directed by Gunn, based on a script written by himself.

The Comics Behind Superman: Legacy

Warner Bros. Animation

James Gunn is famous for being a comic book fans, and although he may not be adapting a specific story for Superman: Legacy, he’ll be taking elements from the pages to put them into the big screen and connect his vision of the first superhero with the fans.

Earlier this year, DC Universe Infinite unveiled a list of titles that inspired Gunn to create the world of the new Superman. The list includes Superman: Birthright by Mark Waid and Leinil Francis Yu, which is a modernized version of the origin story of the character.

All-Star Superman is also part of the list, being one of the first names that Gunn shared when speaking about his vision of the story. In the comic created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, the Man of Steel is dying, so he decides to reveal his identity to Lois Lane to enjoy his last days on Earth.

Superman: Brainiac, Superman: Ending Battle, Superman: Space Age, Superman: Lost, Superman Red & Blue, Superman: American Alien and Superman: Unchained were also part of the suggestions given for fans who wanted to get ready for Superman: Legacy.

For now, no details about the actual plot of the movie have been shared by Gunn or anyone from his team, and it’s probable that most of the information about the story will be kept under wraps until the release.
