Spider-Man continues to be one of Marvel’s fan-favorite characters, even after the somewhat ill-received Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies: The Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2. Tom Holland’s edition of the Marvel comic character has brought fans old and new back to the live-action versions of the web-slinger, and after Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s reappearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, both former Spider-Men have received extra love from fans. Maguire being the first to bring the character to a major live-action film has always had a special place in fan’s hearts. Having to follow behind the largely beloved Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies was no easy task, and Garfield’s outings did not quite make the same impression when released.
But it seems that the tide is turning, as The Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2, which feature Garfield as the Marvel icon, have been trending in Peacock’s “Top 10.” Audiences have been returning with a new perspective on the films and with continued support after Garfield’s reappearance as Peter Parker. Fans have also taken to Letterboxd to send love to the film after almost a decade since its release. User em says, “my love for andrew garfields spiderman is growing rapidly”, which seems to be the sentiment of many Spider-Man fans, both old and new.
Some fans who have, of course, enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man franchise since the first film’s release in 2012, and have now expressed frustration with the delayed love for the film and Garfield’s performance. User apollo1ol says, “Tired of people pretending like they were there. Andrew Garfield, you were always the best Spider-Man.”

Other fans point out that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s performances are the main reason for their love for the film. User Elyssa Radenz says, “Watching again all these years later, and it just doesn’t hold up. I did enjoy some of the fighting sequences and I love Andrew and Emma. But that’s about it.” Joe Comer adds, “”I love Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in this movie. I think the main drawback for this movie is the villain is pretty mid and the whole plot is kind of hard to follow. I do think the acting is great it’s just the plot and script could be better but overall a great movie. (I think Andrew Garfield is my favorite Peter Parker).”
After his reappearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have called for the third film in the unfinished The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy. After the disappointing performance of the two Garfield-led Spider-Man movies and pre-production complications, Sony decided to stop the development of the third and fourth movies in the series. Sony has not mentioned any further development of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise but, while we might never get another film with Garfield’s Peter Parker, some fans are still hopeful. User Ellie says, “every time i watch these movies i go in thinking i’ll develop the ability to be critical and objective and then every single time i just wind up crying and wanting andrew garfield’s spidey back.”
