No Way Home Presales Record

No Way Home Presales Record

Summary

  • Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is breaking presale records, exceeding the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
  • The tour covers all of Swift’s eras and features songs from each of her nine albums, along with stories from her life.
  • The release of The Exorcist: Believer was moved to avoid competing with Swift’s concert movie, indicating the significant impact and influence of her fan base.

Music sensation Taylor Swift never gets tired of breaking records, and having already taken down one of Marvel’s greatest heroes, the songstress has also taken on the mighty Star Wars – and won. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie, which was announced earlier this week, is coming to theaters in North America following the conclusion of the tour, inviting Swifties to enjoy the concert on the big screen once again or even seeing it for the first time in many cases.

The presale for the film is already breaking records since tickets went on sale yesterday, proving once again the enormous quantity of people that have been following the acclaimed musician’s work across more than 17 years and since her first album was released back in 2006.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour takes fans on an emotional and fun journey that covers each of the eras that Swift has gone through as part of the music industry, performing songs from each of her nine main albums, and also including stories from her childhood, youth, lovers and friends.

The tour itself is already set to become the highest-grossing event in music history, but that record is not enough for Taylor and her amazing army of fans. According to Deadline, the ticket presales via AMC, who are also acting as distributor, for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie has broken the record set by Spider-Man: No Way Home and reaching $26 million dollars on the first day. More impressive still, if other cinema chains including Regal and Cinemark are added, then Swift has also taken down Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening day presale by taking over $37 million, with most of the theaters already sold out.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was one of the biggest hits for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, breaking records thanks to the possibility of seeing Tom Holland’s Peter Parker joining forces with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s iterations, fighting against several villains introduced in the movies that came out prior to the creation of the MCU. So this was definitely a once in a life-time event, which clearly fans feel Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is too.

The Exorcist: Believer Has Changed Release Date to Avoid The Eras Tour

Republic Records/Universal Pictures

Right when Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie was announces, fans started to use the hashtag ExorSwift, since the film would have been released the same days as The Exorcist: Believer, a project that’s set to kick off a new franchise based in the classic 1973 horror film. Even Jason Blum, producer of the movie showed his support to create a new Barbenheimer-like phenomenon inviting people to a double feature.

However, later that day, Universal Pictures confirmed that the horror pic would ultimately come out on October 6 instead of October 13, in order to avoid competing with Swift’s concert movie. And seeing how The Eras Tour is performing only on presale, it seems like the company made the right call.

The Exorcist: Believer still has a lot to deal with since fans will definitely be judging if the movie can live up to expectations as part of the same universe as one of the most iconic films within the genre. If not the most popular one ever made. And the expectations are now arguably even higher since the sad passing of original director William Friedkin.
