A storm is brewing in the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as the show has just cast its most important character, Thalia, the demi-god daughter of Zeus. The hit Disney+ series has breathed new life into Rick Riordan’s series. The novels were first adapted into movies, starring Logan Lerman as the titular demi-god. The sequel, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters closed by teasing the introduction of Thalia (Paloma Kwiatkowski), but after the film series was canceled by 20th Century Studios, fans were desperately left waiting to watch one of the coolest characters in the series arrive in live-action. Well, the wait is nearly over, as Thalia will appear in the upcoming second season.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Tamara Smart has been cast as Thalia Grace in the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Smart is best known for her roles in Resident Evil, Wendell & Wild, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting, and The Worst Witch. It hasn’t been confirmed how much Thalia will be present in the second season. As the series has been a mostly faithful adaptation of Riordan’s novels, it is likely that Tamara will only appear at the end of Season 2, setting up the character for a much larger role in future seasons.
Tamara Smart is the only latest addition to the cast for Season 2. It was also recently announced that Daniel Diemer has been cast as Tyson,Percy’s cyclops half-brother. It has also been confirmed that Tyson will be a series regular going forward, meaning he will likely be introduced at the start of Season 2, as he is in the second book, The Sea of Monsters.
Who Is Thalia Grace in Percy Jackson?
Thalia Grace is one of the most important characters in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series of books. She is actually mentioned in The Lightning Thief, the novel adapted in the show’s first season. During Grover’s flashback, Thalia sacrifices herself fighting a Minotaur, as Grover and Annabeth make their way to Camp Half-Blood. Her body and soul are then transformed into a tree which creates the barrier protecting Camp Half -Blood. In the novels, Thalia Grace becomes an incredibly powerful ally of Percy’s. As another child of the big three (Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades), Thalia is incredibly strong and adept at combat. Speaking on Tamara Smart’s casting, Rick Riordan (who serves as an executive producer on the show), said:
“Thalia Grace is one of the most important characters in the Percy Jackson universe, so the right casting was critical. Thalia is a powerful warrior, a fiercely loyal friend, and a demigod rebel with a very ‘punk’/‘rage-against-the-machine’ sensibility. As soon as we saw Tamara Smart play this role, we knew we had found our daughter of Zeus. She was, no pun intended, electric.”
The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is expected to adapt The Sea of Monsters, which sees Percy, Annabeth, Grover, joined by Tyson, go in search of the Golden Fleece, a powerful, enchanted artifact with mysterious healing properties. However, the group will come face to face with a deadly enemy who seeks to use the fleece to reawaken an ancient power.
Season 2 of

is scheduled to release on Disney+ in 2025.
