Red Notice 2 to Start Filming Soon, According to Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot has been continuing to strengthen her acting resume to near Amazonian heights since proving nearly everyone wrong with her enormous breakout role in DCU’s Wonder Woman (2017). She definitely hasn’t shied away from action roles since then, and once more she impressed audiences everywhere with her performance in Netflix’s popular action comedy Red Notice (2021), which was quickly announced for a sequel after it received resounding acclaim. After a very long pause on any updates regarding said sequel (actually two sequels now), per a report from Collider, lead star Gadot excitingly disclosed that filming on Red Notice 2 is finally set to get underway soon, having read the finished script.

Red Notice was a rather unexpected, big-scale action comedy film from Netflix, the latest addition to its ever-growing library of Netflix Originals. At the helm was Rawson Marshall Thurber, whose previous work includes other classic comedy films like Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004) and We’re The Millers (2013). He also co-produced alongside Dani Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, as well as Hiram Garcia and Beau Flynn, who are both returning to work with Thurber on both sequels.

The ensemble cast that had surprisingly strong chemistry included Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Black Adam), Gal Gadot (Fast X), Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy), and Chris Diamantopoulos (Daisy Jones & the Six). The film debuted on the streaming platform in 2021 and while it didn’t exactly resonate with critics, it still topped Netflix’s viewership charts for at least the first month, making its mark with a surprisingly universal demographic.

Things Are Looking Rosy For Red Notice 2 and 3

Seeing its potential alongside other iconic heist thriller franchises like Ocean’s Eleven, the producers quickly set out to plan not one but two sequels, and film them back-to-back. They announced that scriptwriting was well underway early last year for both films, but then the information pipeline dried up for some time. In the wake of the ongoing WGA strike, which has effectively shuttered a huge portion of the country’s film and television production, the prospect of Red Notice 2 & 3 being shelved was unfortunately a realistic possibility. However, it seems that the crisis has been successfully averted as lead actress Gal Gadot managed to assure that things are still moving along. In a cast interview with Collider for her upcoming film Heart of Stone, when asked about the progress on the Red Notice sequels, she clearly expressed her excitement for what’s to come.

“We’re all talking about it. I don’t know if I can say anything! I already read the second script and it’s… whoo! We’re all very excited about it!”

While she obviously can’t reveal too much just yet, those words are definitely a relief to hear, and it appears that we’ll hopefully be hearing more about Red Notice 2 soon enough. Meanwhile, Gadot is also set to star in the highly anticipated spy thriller film Heart of Stone, which premieres on Netflix on August 11. She also recently wrapped filming on the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Snow White, in which she plays the ‘Evil Queen’ antagonist. That film is currently set to debut in theaters on March 22, 2024.
