Blake Lively, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel reunited in honor of their The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-star America Ferrera. On Friday, the four actresses attended a special New York screening of Barbie following Ferrera’s Critics Choice Award nomination for her role in the Greta Gerwig film. Ferrera commemorated the sweet moment through an Instagram post. She captioned a video of the four women:
“The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night.I love these women with all my heart. #SisterhoodForever”
Before she was Gloria in Barbie, Ferrera starred as Carmen in 2005’s The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The film follows best friends Lena (Bledel), Bridget (Lively), Carmen, and Tibby (Tamblyn), who hatch a plan to stay connected with one another as their lives start off in different directions: they pass around a pair of secondhand jeans that fits each of their bodies perfectly. The four returned for a 2008 sequel that followed their characters into college.
The four actresses have long been vocal about their special friendship that extends into real life. In 2013, Ferrera told EW that the four were grateful for the film, as it was meaningful to their careers and friendship. In 2020, Lively spoke highly of her co-stars, saying she admired them for using their voices to stand up for what they believe in.

At a time when female solidarity is being celebrated and encouraged (with Barbie playing a significant role in this encouraging movement), Ferrera’s post quickly racked up comments from social media users – including Reese Witherspoon and Eva Longoria – who loved seeing Lively, Bledel, Ferrera, and Tamblyn back together. Others hoped for, or inquired about, the possibility of a third installment to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants film series. A third film has been previously addressed by the stars themselves: in 2017, Tamblyn said a third film had been in development for a while. Two years later, Ferrera said it would be wonderful to work on a third movie.
While there’s no confirmation of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3, audiences can watch Ferrera in Gerwig’s Barbie, now available to stream on Max. Ferrera stars in the film as Gloria, a Mattel employee and mother who delivers one of the most talked about monologues in recent movie history. Last week, Ferrera earned a Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress alongside Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Jodie Foster (Nyad), Julianne Moore (May December), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers).
Besides earning recognition for her Barbie performance, Ferrera is also gaining recognition for her work off-screen. Last month, she was recognized with the Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award (presented by Fonda herself) for her efforts supporting women’s rights, voting rights, climate change, immigrant rights, and human rights.
Ferrera also stars in Dumb Money, which is based on the real story of everyday people who got rich by turning GameStop into the world’s hottest company. She will next appear in the animated sci-f adventure feature Elio.
