Watch Trailer for Beast Starring Idris Elba

Idris Elba must protect his family from a fierce predator in the new trailer for Beast.

Idris Elba defends his family and fights to stay alive in the upcoming film, Beast. The film will center around his character, Dr. Nate Daniels, and his two daughters, who find themselves the target of an aggressive lion on their safari. The official synopsis reads:

A father and his two teenage daughters find themselves hunted by a massive rogue lion intent on proving the Savanna has but one apex predator.

Universal has kept most of the storyline under wraps until now. Elba’s character is a recently widowed husband who returns to South Africa, where he first met his wife. What was initially planned as a family getaway to heal from their tragic loss quickly turns into a nightmare filled with edge-of-your-seat action. The trailer begins by showing the happy-go-lucky adventure before taking a darker turn when the hostile lion makes its presence known.

The Cast and What We Know So Far About Beast

Joining Elba will be Sharlto Copley (District 9, Chappie), who plays Martin Battles, an old family friend and wildlife biologist. Iyana Halley (This is Us series) will co-star as Daniels’ 18-year-old daughter, Meredith, and Leah Sava Jeffries (Empire series) will play his 13-year-old daughter, Norah. The film is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, who helmed projects such as Everest (2015) and Contraband (2012) in the past. Written by Ryan Engle, the movie is based on an original story by Jamie Primak Sullivan.

It’s safe to say Elba is keeping busy, as Beast releases on August 19th. This is just two weeks before his next major film, Three Thousand Years of Longing, which sees Elba’s character in the role of a Genie, offering three wishes to a lonely scholar in exchange for his freedom. Of course, Elba is already having a big year with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where he played the character Knuckles. The film crushed it at the box office, earning $375.57 million worldwide, making the movie the most successful video game adaptation of all time.

Elba will be looking to continue his hot streak in 2022 when Beast hits theaters this summer, August 19th.
