Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver
hits Netflix on April 19 and Snyder suggests watching it as a double feature with the first film.
The Rebel Moon franchise, which debuted with Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire in 2023, is a long-time passion project for director Zack Snyder. As a result, Snyder fans are hoping the franchise will continue after its second installment, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, hits Netflix on April 19. Zack Snyder has recently shared what it will take for Netflix to approve a third film in the series, and it’s surprisingly simple.
During a recent interview with Collider, Zack Snyder was asked about producing more installments in the franchise following Rebel Moon – Part Two. In the interview, Snyder revealed that all it would take is a little thumbs up. “Probably just in general, a double thumbs up would probably do it.” The thumbs up refers to Netflix’s internal rating system, which allows users to rate films using ‘Not for me,’ ‘I like this,’ and ‘Loved it!’ categories. If fans want to see Rebel Moon – Part Three, all they need to do is hit the double thumbs up for ‘Loved it!’, according to Snyder.
“A double thumbs up would do it.”
Meanwhile, he told The Playlist:
We have definitely been working on a ‘Part Three,’ as far as the story goes. We definitely know where we’re all headed – we’ve known that for quite a while, to be honest. So yeah, I’m excited to make some more Rebel Moon movies – that would be fun.
There are presumably more factors than audiences’ double thumbs ups for Netflix to consider when approving a third film. Overall viewing figures (the streaming equivalent of box office returns) will also play a huge factor in the possibility of a third installment. Rebel Moon – Part One was viewed over 34 million times in its first week on Netflix. Zack Snyder went so far as to say that more people watched Rebel Moon than Barbie. Viewing figures for Rebel Moon – Part Two will likely have to match or exceed this figure for Netflix to consider a third movie.
The Rebel Moon Franchise Is Off to a Rocky Start
However, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire wasn’t anywhere near as popular with critics and general audiences than it was with Snyder’s devout following. Rebel Moon – Part One sits at a shocking 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. MovieWeb’s review of Rebel Moon says “Zack Snyder disappoints in a galaxy far, far away.” Snyder fans hope that Rebel Moon – Part Two will receive a far better critical reception than the debut film.
But Zack Snyder has big plans for the Rebel Moon franchise regardless. On top of the two films already produced, Snyder is working on Director’s Cuts for both movies, as per his contract with Netflix. In the same interview, Snyder gave an update on the release date for his director’s cut, “I think at the end of summer. I think sometime in August they’re supposed to come out.” Snyder also wants Rebel Moon to become a multimedia franchise. Bruce Bethke’s recent novelization of Rebel Moon – Part One re-tells the story and expands upon Snyder’s lore. Snyder’s overall plan for the franchise even includes a tie-in comic book, an animated short, and a video game.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver sees most of the phenomenal cast returning, including Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins, Cary Elwes and Ed Skrein. Zack Snyder believes the best way to watch Part Two is as a double feature with Part One. Speaking to Forbes, Snyder said, “You can’t underestimate that immersive feeling that you would get going all the way through the two movies.” You can watch the trailer below:
