No Way Home Fan Watches Film 292 Times to Set New World Record

Ramiro Alanis just might be the biggest Spider-Man: No Way Home fan of all. Guinness World Records has just announced that the Florida man has just officially set the new world record for “most cinema productions attended of the same film.” Between Dec. 16, 2021, when the movie premiered, to March 15, 2022, Alanis watched Spider-Man: No Way Home an astonishing 292 times. Keeping in mind that this is a rather long films, that totals up to 720 hours, or 30 days’ worth of watching the same movie.

This is actually the second time Alanis has claimed this record. He previously set the record in 2019 by watching Avengers: Endgame 191 times, surpassing Joanne Connor of Australia’s prior record of watching Bohemian Rhapsody 108 times in 2019. Last year, Arnaud Klein of France broke Alanis’ record by watching Kaamelott: First Instalment 204 times. With Spidey’s latest big-screen adventure, Alanis was determined to reclaim his record.

Alanis felt inspired to set the record again in honor of his grandmother, Juany, who was her grandson’s “#1 supporter.” She passed away in 2019 before Alanis could officially earn title for the Endgame record. Setting the world record again meant watching back-to-back screenings for three months until it stopped screening, watching the film as much as five times every day for the first few weeks. He says that the most difficult part was the late-night viewings which brought about headaches after watching the film so many times that day.

For every screening to be counted toward the total, the film must be watched from start to finish, all the way up until the very end of the credits. It must also be done “independently of any other activity,” meaning Alanis could not take any bathroom breaks or even so much as look at his phone. Alanis also had to submit every ticket stub along with statements taken from theater attendants from every single viewing verifying that Alanis had watched the film throughout without any naps or breaks.

Alanis says he was literally reciting the dialogue along with the movie by the final screenings, estimating he’d spent around $3,400 in movie tickets. He noted that after watching the movie nearly 300 times, his favorite part of it is “Andrew Garfield and his redemption arc.” The Marvel fan also warns against anyone else thinking about going for the new record.

“If anyone tries to break my record again, I want them to think twice before attempting it,” he says.

Sony Pictures Releasing

The thousands of dollars spent by Ramiro Alanis were just one small part of the boatloads of cash pulled in by Spider-Man: No Way Home. The movie was by far the highest-earning release of the pandemic era, banking more than $1.8 billion worldwide. Fans across the planet were excited to see three generations of Spider-Men coming together for one exciting adventure, uniting Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield.

It will take a truly dedicated cinema lover to find the time to defeat the newest record set by Alanis, but that’s also what it seemed like when he set the record for Avengers: Endgame in 2019. In any case, best of luck to whoever decides to take on the challenge.
