Quantum Leap Reboot Series Gets Fall Premiere Date on NBC

Get ready to leap again this fall. NBC has unveiled its scheduled for the 2022-23 season, and with that comes a premiere date for the Quantum Leap reboot series. The series will premiere on Monday, Sept. 19, at 10 p.m. on NBC. The network will also debut the new sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez at 8 p.m. that evening ahead of Young Rock while The Voice will precede Quantum Leap.

Raymond Lee stars in the new Quantum Leap, essentially taking the place of Dr. Sam Beckett with his role as someone who leaps from one body into another with every episode. The cast also includes Ernie Hudson, Caitlin Bassett, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. It is written and executive produced by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wyndbrandt, while Quantum Leap creator Don Bellisario will also executive produce with co-narrator Deborah Pratt. You can read an official logline for the reboot series below.

“It’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.”

Quantum Leap Shares Its Continuity With Original Series, Scott Bakula Could Return

As of now, original Quantum Leap star Scott Bakula has not been confirmed to be involved with the reboot series. However, he has in the past teased his desire to see the series continue and is up to return as Dr. Sam Beckett, even if it’s for a special appearance and not to return in a series regular role. Perhaps with this new team looking for Dr. Beckett, the character could wind up appearing at some point in a future episode, and if there are no prior announcements made about his appearance, it could become the ultimate surprise for fans.

“Raymond Lee is South Korean, and he’s playing Ben Seong,” says executive producer Deborah Pratt, who wants this reboot to launch a whole new franchise, per The Companion. “I think that’s a huge step forward that will bring in more global storylines. I can’t tell you his backstory and all that kind of stuff, but the episode is a true Quantum Leap episode and it’s an homage to the series in that sense. The characters that they have created for the show, I feel like, are strong and interesting.”

Pratt added, “I think it brings so many new elements. And I go back to Star Trek. Everything that Star Trek can do, Quantum Leap can do. I think we should do a series of movies, I think we should do a series of series, and this is very much the first step into that world. And it will be up to the fans.”

That’s a lot of potential content that the Quantum Leap team has in mind for the future. With so many fans still wondering what ultimately became of Dr. Sam Beckett, let’s hope that Scott Bakula finds a way to reappear somehow with the series getting revived.
