The Green Bay Packers are working on signing head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst to contract extensions, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
LaFleur and Gutenkunst are both heading into the final year of their current deals.
On Thursday, Packers president Ed Policy met with LaFleur and Gutekunst to discuss the team’s future and their plans to remain together, Schefter adds. The Packers will reportedly continue to hold contract talks with the coach and GM this weekend.
LaFleur owns a 76-40-1 regular-season record since joining Green Bay in 2018. Although the team has earned a postseason appearance in six of LaFleur’s seven seasons with the franchise, it hasn’t reached the NFC Championship Game since 2020.
Green Bay’s 2025 campaign ended after the Chicago Bears rallied late to earn a 31-27 win, resulting in the Packers exiting in the wild-card round for a second consecutive year.
Several players publicly backed LaFleur in the days following the season-ending loss.
“You can get spoiled with a good coach and good people, and you don’t realize until they’re gone, and I don’t want to be at that point where we realize like, ‘Damn, we let such a great coach go,’” star pass-rusher Micah Parsons said, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
“I think Matt’s an outstanding head coach. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll remain here as a Packer,” added tight end Tucker Kraft.
Gutekunst has been with the Packers since 1999 and became the general manager in 2019. He’s overseen several defining personnel moves, including trading Aaron Rodgers and acquiring Micah Parsons in a blockbuster deal ahead of the 2025 season.
