Report: Waller traded to Dolphins, coming out of retirement

The Miami Dolphins are acquiring tight end Darren Waller and a conditional 2027 seventh-round pick from the New York Giants for a 2026 sixth-round selection, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Waller will come out of retirement and sign a one-year, $5-million contract with the Dolphins, Schefter adds.

The 32-year-old last played in the NFL in 2023 for the Giants, totaling 52 receptions for 552 yards and one touchdown in 12 contests. New York traded a compensatory third-round pick to the Raiders for Waller after he spent five years with Las Vegas.

Miami was reportedly shopping for a tight end after trading Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Minkah Fitzpatrick. Waller will join a Dolphins tight end room that includes Julian Hill, Pharaoh Brown, Tanner Conner, and Hayden Rucci.

Waller’s best season came in 2020, when he racked up 107 receptions for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns. He battled injuries from 2021 to 2023, playing in only 32 of a possible 51 regular-season games.
