Mendes finds dignity in Romina’s difficult choices, portraying a woman who protects her son while honoring complicated feelings.
Together, Gosling and Mendes generate authenticity in their brief scenes. Their characters’ unresolved tension, a mix of attraction, resentment, and shared history, feels palpably real.
