The Philadelphia Phillies are heading back to the postseason.
Philadelphia became the third National League team to clinch a playoff berth after defeating the New York Mets 12-2 on Friday at Citi Field.
The Phillies have earned a postseason spot for the third consecutive campaign. The club lost the World Series in 2022 and was ousted in last year’s NLCS.
“You look around and you see all the talent, you see all the guys, you see the front office, the moves they make and things like that, you look at it on paper at the beginning of the year, and this team should be in the playoffs,” Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm said, according to Mike Fitzpatrick of The Associated Press.
Philadelphia is in prime position to win the NL East for the first time since 2011, leading the Mets by seven games with eight remaining.
The Phillies are also tied with the The Los Angeles Dodgers for MLB’s best record at 92-62. If the season ended today, both teams would earn a first-round bye to start the postseason.
