The DCU’s first movie, Superman, hasn’t even been released in theaters yet, but one star of James Gunn’s new film is getting ahead of himself, and looking towards the sequel. David Corenswet plays the new Man of Steel/Clark Kent, who works at the Daily Planet alongside Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane. Both characters work under the iconic newspaper editor, Perry White, played by Wendell Pierce in Superman, who is a staple character of the Superman franchise, and will have a big role in the upcoming film. While it’s all but guaranteed that Superman will be a box office success, a sequel hasn’t been announced yet. But, as Perry White recently let slip, Superman 2 could be a very real possibility.
Wendell Pierce recently joined his Superman castmates, Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and Skyler Gisondo, to speak to Collider ahead of the movie’s release on July 11. During the conversation, Pierce discussed being on the film’s set, and seeing The Daily Planet’s office brought to life. The seemingly casual conversation then took an unexpected and exciting turn, as Wendell Pierce teased the Man of Steel’s future in the DCU, before closing his lips faster than a speeding bullet. He said:
“It’s a hot set, you don’t want to mess it up because, you know, the sequel is — Never mind!”

James Gunn has reminded those who may have forgotten what exactly protects Superman’s identity when he is Clark Kent.
In that moment, Wendell Pierce became the DCU’s equivalent of Tom Holland, who frequently spoils upcoming MCU movies by accident. The actor turned to one of the publicists behind the camera with a scared and apologetic look on his face, while the rest of the cast employed their acting abilities to pretend like nothing had happened. Superman 2 hasn’t officially been confirmed by DC Studios. While many fans presumed the studio would have plans for a sequel, it likely all depends on the film’s box office take when it flies into theaters on July 11.

David Corenswet’s Superman Is Confirmed to Return in the DCU
Superman the movie’s future might be uncertain, but Superman the character’s DCU tenure has already been confirmed. Only a mad studio exec would introduce the Man of Steel, only to waste him in subsequent movies. Following Superman, Supergirl is the next DCU movie to be released in theaters (June 26, 2026). Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alcock, won’t be the only Kryptonian to appear in the film, as David Corenswet’s Superman will be flying through the sky beside her.
Supergirl will also give fans the DC casting they’ve been dreaming about for years. Jason Momoa is leaving his Aquaman days behind (although he was literally the only person who could make the character cool) to play Lobo, one of DC Comics’ best cult characters. The intergalactic mercenary swears, rides a flying motorcycle, and is nigh indestructible. It’s the perfect role for Momoa.
As previously mentioned, Superman 2 hasn’t officially been confirmed. Expect a more concrete announcement to arrive sometime after Superman is released in theaters.
