Could Jon Bernthal be set to return as The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again? That is what a new rumor from notable insider KC Walsh claims, with the claim adding that Frank Castle will replace Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, who was initially lined up for an appearance in the standalone Daredevil Disney+ series.
According to the insider, scheduling conflicts (likely due to her leading role in Orphan Black: Echoes) have stopped Krysten Ritter from being able to bring back Jessica Jones alongside Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock. Instead, another popular Marvel character will take her place, with Walsh providing a pretty major hint over who that character will be.

The return of Jessica Jones has been rumored for some time, with several outlets claiming that she would play a role in the upcoming Echo series before appearing alongside Daredevil in his solo series. Reports have since stated that Charlie Cox will feature in Echo, and considering the history of the characters in the pages of Marvel Comics, a cameo from Daredevil is near enough a sure thing.
What is a little more indeterminate is who, if anyone, will appear in Daredevil: Born Again. Considering that the likes of Hawkeye and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law have both been used to bring the likes of Kingpin and Daredevil fully into the MCU, it certainly stands to reason that Daredevil: Born Again will act as another platform for an already beloved character. And if not Jessica Jones, then why not The Punisher?
Daredevil & The Punisher Have a History
Marvel Studios
Since the cancelation of Netflix series such as Daredevil and The Punisher, Marvel fans have been calling for the respective actors to reprise their roles in the MCU. Now that the likes of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio have been brought back, Punisher fans will be wondering when Jon Bernthal’s superb iteration will do the same.
Of course, Matt Murdock and Frank Castle (and their alter egos) have a history, with the pair coming to blows in the second season of Daredevil before Murdock used his powers as a lawyer to defend the violent vigilante in court. So, while this is just a rumor at present, Daredevil: Born Again would undoubtedly be the perfect time to bring Jon Bernthal and The Punisher back into the Marvel fray.
Not much is yet known about the direction of Daredevil: Born Again, but Marvel Studios has revealed that it will run for a mammoth 18 episodes. After appearing as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Charlie Cox will first reprise the role of Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, followed by appearing in the Disney+ series, Echo. Daredevil: Born Again will follow, and is expected to be released in Spring 2024.
As for Frank Castle, persistent rumors have claimed that Jon Bernthal will get his own Punisher project, with some saying that the character will star in his own movie, while others have said that Frank Castle will appear in a series on Hulu. Here’s hoping that this latest rumor regarding the return of The Punisher is accurate.
