Actors Colman Domingo and Ayo Edebiri continue to dominate this awards season with the pair, who have now received their first Academy Award and Emmy nominations respectively, lead the way at this year’s 55th NAACP Image Awards. Domingo, who has seen his star rise rapidly thanks to his acclaimed role as Bayard Rustin in the biographical drama Rustin, has been nominated for three awards, including Outstanding Actor in a motion picture for Rustin and Entertainer of the Year.

Ayo Edebiri, meanwhile, continues to see success for her performance as talented young chef Sydney Adamu in the FX and Hulu series, The Bear. Edebiri recently won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role in the hit series and has now been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for The Bear and for her performance as Guest Actress in the sitcom Abbott Elementary at the NAACP Image Awards.

Other names up for the top prize of NAACP’s Entertainer of the Year Award include Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey, Keke Palmer, and Usher, who has earned five nominations overall.

The NAACP Image Awards is presented by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to honor outstanding performances in film, television, theatre, music, and literature. The 55th NAACP Image Awards are due to take place on March 16, 2024.

Where movies and television are concerned, the likes of The Color Purple, Origin, American Fiction (which recently earned five nominations at the 96th Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor), and the Netflix sci-fi comedy They Cloned Tyrone are up for Outstanding Motion Picture. Meanwhile, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, and Johnn Boyega are up for Outstanding Actor, with Fantasia Barrino, Aunjanue Ellis–Taylor, and Halle Bailey get the nod for Outstanding Actress.

On the small screen side of things, the likes of Abbott Elementary, Harlem, Survival of the Thickest, and The Neighborhood are among the nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series, while the Outstanding Drama list includes Bel–Air, Found, and Snowfall.
