With Dick Van Dyke turning 97 years old, it’s as good a time as any to send some love to the television legend. On social media, the actor’s name is trending with fans everywhere sending their love in honor of his special day. While best known for The Dick Van Dyke Show, Van Dyke is also getting some recognition from fans for his other many roles, with some sharing video clips of the funnyman’s most memorable moments.
“A very happy 97th birthday to veteran actor, singer & dancer Dick Van Dyke, here from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang singing Me Ole Bamboo (1968),” writes one fan, including a clip from the film.
Another post on Twitter celebrating Van Dyke’s birthday includes a more recent video of the TV icon doing a rendition of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” at a Denny’s restaurant, much to the enjoyment of everyone present.

And for those who choose to celebrate by watching classic episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show, the free streaming platform Pluto TV wants you to know that you can watch the show for free, tweeting a clip from a birthday episode of the show in honor of the occasion.

Friends and contemporaries in show business are also sending along happy birthday wishes. The Brady Bunch star Maureen McCormick tweeted a photo of herself with Van Dyke and wrote a kind message for him to read.
“Happy Birthday to one of my favorite performers!” she said. “Thank you Dick Van Dyke for all the joy, laughter, and brilliant entertainment you have shared with us all. You are so beloved. May your days be filled with all the joy you have given us.”
Better Call Saul and This Is Spinal Tap actor Michael McKean also tweeted, “Our (Dick Van Dyke) should only have a terrific birthday, and so say all of us!”
It’s no surprise to see Van Dyke getting so much love and respect, given his career accomplishments that have spanned decades. He has won five Emmys along with a Golden Globe, Tony, and Grammy Award. Van Dyke was previously bestowed with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was honored with the Kennedy Center Honors in 2021. He has also continued to perform in recent years, providing voiceover work for Jim Carrey’s Showtime series Kidding in 2020 and appearing in the films Mary Poppins Returns and Buttons: A Christmas Tale in 2018. In 2017, he released the album We’re Going Caroling with Jane Lynch, showing he’s still got his musical talents as well.
