Like all good, twisted thrillers, the latest Netflix Harlan Coben series, Fool Me Once, has sparked big reactions from audiences, with the ending of the eight-part series causing viewers to question everything once the mystery had been unraveled. Now, speaking with Radio Times, author Harlan Coben has detailed his feelings towards the response, revealing that even he wondered whether he could pull off such a contorted conclusion.
“It’s a thrill. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much response, even with The Stranger or Stay Close, Safe – this much of the population just embracing the show.
It’s been kind of a marvel to watch, and yeah, the ending, I love that people are getting caught up in that.
When I wrote the book, I remember when I came up with the idea of the ending, I was like, ‘That’s really twisted, can I pull that off?’ and I think we did – I think for the show, we did. I’m really happy with it.”
Released on Netflix on New Year’s Day, Fool Me Once stars Michelle Keegan, Richard Armitage, Adeel Akhtar, Emmett J. Scanlan and Joanna Lumley, and is the latest tale from the mind of writer Harlan Coben, who has joined forces with the streaming before with the likes of Safe starring Dexter’s Michael C. Hall, and The Stranger starring Richard Armitage and Hannah John-Kamen.
Fool Me Once follows Michelle Keegan as ex-soldier Maya, who somehow sees her murdered husband on a secret nanny cam. Slowly, she uncovers a deadly conspiracy that stretches deep into the past.
Meanwhile, detective Sergeant Sami Kierce (Adeel Akhtar) leads the homicide investigation into Joe’s death while grappling with secrets of his own. If that were not already enough mystery to contend with, Maya’s niece and nephew, Abby and Daniel, are trying to find the truth about their mother’s murder, several months earlier.
Are the two cases connected? Fool Me Once follows these characters on a thrilling hunt brimming with twists as they search for the truth and reveal shocking secrets that will change their lives forever.
