No new host has yet been named for The Daily Show on Comedy Central, but some longtime fans of the series feel Samantha Bee would be perfect. Previously, Bee had been featured as the longest-serving correspondent on The Daily Show before moving on to start her own series Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. After seven seasons, Full Frontal was canceled over the summer as one of many victims of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger.
Meanwhile, current Daily Show host Trevor Noah will soon be stepping away from the series. Joining the show in 2015 to succeed Jon Stewart, Noah’s run does not yet have a specific end date, but the comedian recently revealed on the show that he’s stepping down as the host in the near future.

“I realized that after that seven years, my time is up,” Noah explained. “But in the most beautiful way. Honestly. I’ve loved hosting the show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I have loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days. You know, we’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together. But after seven years, I feel like it’s time.”
After the news was announced, a statement from a Comedy Central rep added, “We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we’re working together on next steps. As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of The Daily Show as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them.”

Who Will Succeed Trevor Noah?

At this time, one big question that viewers have is who is will ultimately end up succeeding Trevor Noah. Some longtime fans of The Daily Show, who remember when the former correspondent was a regular presence on the series, are suggesting Samantha Bee for the job. Had Full Frontal been renewed for season 8, Bee wouldn’t be an option, but with her schedule more open at this point, the timing couldn’t be any more perfect if this was the direction Comedy Central wanted to venture into. As some fans say, there’s also certainly a case to be made for keeping a female presence in the realm of late-night television.
“I saw Jordan Klepper as potentially the frontrunner to replace Trevor Noah on The Daily Show but then I realized….Samantha Bee’s TBS show Full Frontal isn’t on anymore and I wonder if Comedy Central might consider bringing Bee back into the Daily Show fold as the new host,” one fan posits on Twitter.
Another fan tweeted, “Anyone have ideas as to who will take over for Trevor Noah on The Daily Show? I’m calling Samantha Bee. I’ll so miss Trevor!!”
“Last night Trevor Noah announced that he will be leaving The Daily Show,” reads another tweet. “I love Trevor. He has had a wonderful 7 year run. So, how to replace him? I hear a young woman named Samantha Bee is available. A woman in late night? About damn time.”
Of course, something else to consider is if Bee would be interested in returning to the series she stepped away from, but the fans wanting to see it happen would certainly help the odds. Time will tell who ends up getting picked for the job, but until that day comes, fans will likely continue to suggest Bee.
