Apple TV+ has announced that the eagerly awaited fourth season of its BAFTA Award-winning series, Slow Horses, is slated to premiere on Wednesday, September 4. The show, which has entertained viewers with its potent mix of sharp wit and thrilling espionage, will kick off with two episodes on its opening day, followed by weekly releases each Wednesday throughout October.
Slow Horses draws its plot from Spook Street, the fourth book in Mick Herron’s celebrated spy series Slough House. The series features Gary Oldman in the lead role of Jackson Lamb, the formidable but distinctly unsociable head of a group of intelligence agents. These agents have all been relegated to Slough House due to severe blunders that have stalled their careers, yet they continue to navigate the intricate and often deceptive world of espionage. The previous season was highly acclaimed, securing two BAFTAs and receiving three additional nominations.

Slow Horses boasts a robust returning cast, including Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, and Rosalind Eleazar, among others. Season 4 sees the addition of notable actors such as Hugo Weaving and Joanna Scanlan, promising to inject new dynamics into the already tense atmosphere of Slough House.
The upcoming season, directed by Adam Randall, known for his work on I See You, promises to escalate the stakes with a storyline centered around a bombing that exposes deep-seated secrets, threatening the precarious stability of Slough House.
The announcement also came with a nod to the future of Slow Horses, as Apple TV+ confirmed the series’ renewal for a fifth season, which will adapt “London Rules,” the fifth book in Herron’s series. Read the logline for Season 5 below:
“Everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Jackson Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, ‘London Rules’ should always apply.”
This follows an ambitious production schedule where seasons three and four were filmed consecutively, a sign of the show’s success and the streamer’s confidence in its continued appeal. Slow Horses is produced by See-Saw Films and adapted for television by Will Smith of Veep fame.
