Hulk Hogan Booed While Appearing on WWE Raw on Netflix

WWE legend Hulk Hogan
cuts a very different figure now compared to his incredible heyday as one of the most colorful characters in wrestling, and his “surprise” appearance on Monday Night Raw, which premiered on Netflix on January 6, proved that he cannot quite connect with a crowd like he used to. Entering the show after around two hours, the Hulkster was greeted with a wall of boos, which certainly stood out from the rest of the night’s proceedings…but not in a good way.

It is a long time since Hogan had the majority of WWE fans on his side, thanks to a series of controversies. His fall from grace began in 2015 when a leaked video tape showed him making racial slurs and other racist remarks. This led to him being removed from the WWE Hall of Fame until 2018, when he was reinstated after making what many called “insincere” apologies over his behavior. His recent bold, brash support of Donald Trump through his election campaign has certainly not helped endear him to the people of California, where the event was held.

As soon as the veteran star arrived, bearing the name of his Real American Beer brand brazenly on his shirt, and entering the arena to the familiar “Real America” theme song, the room erupted with jeers and boos. Over the ruckus, Hogan said:

“You, the fans, have been my greatest tag team partner because you guys have stuck with me through thick and thin dudes. You know, I got a new tag-team partner right now. I got Hulk Hogan’s Real American Beer that I’ve teamed up [with]. And in the past, I’ve had a whole bunch of partners down the line. I’ve had incredible partners like ‘ooh ya’ the Macho Man Randy Savage. I’ve had giant-size partners, like Andre the Giant. But the greatest partner the WWE has ever had, is the fact that tonight, we’re making history, and the WWE has tag-teamed up with Netflix, the greatest tag-team partner of all time. Well, let me tell you something brother! From the first time I stepped into the ring, I’ve always fought for something bigger than myself.”

The Californian audience was not at all impressed by his presence, as a video shared on X/Twitter showed, and this led to several fans – including former fans of the man himself – declaring that “Hulkmania is dead” and that it was not necessarily killed by his recent political rallying, but “because of how self-serving, two-faced, and out-of-touch he has shown [himself] to be.”

‘WWE Raw’ Blasted to the Top of the Netflix Streaming Chart

WWE

Despite the uproar surrounding Hogan’s appearance at the event, Monday Night Raw was a resounding success for Netflix, even dethroning the mighty Squid Game from the top of the TV chart. Obviously, this could have also been because of the rumored appearance of Hogan – and the much more welcome appearances of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who was never going to miss out on this kind of audience attention, John Cena, on the start of his 2025 retirement tour, and the Undertaker, who appeared to congratulate Rhea Ripley on her championship win.

Peacemaker Star John Cena Makes Shocking Announcement About His WWE Future

The 16-time heavyweight champion was in Toronto tonight to address his future in the WWE, and what that will look like going forward into 2025.

Regardless of the why, as WWE continues its partnership with Netflix, it is clearly still content to welcome back figures from the past, no matter how controversial they may have become. Whether this is the last we have seen of Hulk Hogan, only time will tell, but if there is one thing that has been proven time and time again, nothing draws in a crowd like controversy.
